http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,115495,pg,1,RSS,RSS,00.asp

Sony has filed a hefty counter suit against Eastman Kodak, claiming more than ten patent infringements on technology related to digital cameras.

"The suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey and asks for an unspecified amount of compensation and legal costs, says Aki Shimazu, a spokesperson for Sony in Tokyo. It also seeks to halt the production, distribution, and sale of products containing technology covered by the patents, she says."

This suit is in retaliation to an earlier suit filed by Kodak against Sony for a similar related dispute.

Regardless of wether there is any validity to either suit, it's clear that Kodak and Sony are locked in a desperate struggle for industry dominance. A similar market rivalry between Adobe and Macromedia led to bloody litigation which resulted in Macromedia coming out on the losing end, which was clearly an attempt by Adobe to cripple its successful rival. Acts like this make me sick. If you can't beat your competitor, use the court system to destroy them? Innovate or die.
