After having Pocket PC Thoughts and Smartphone Thoughts on my daily surfing list for quite some time, it is a pleasure to be associated so closely with Digital Media Thoughts and Thoughts Media in general.

I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Computer Science Department at Columbia University. Here, I am affiliated with the Programming Systems Laboratory, where I conduct research and also hold the positions of Systems Administrator and Lab Manager, managing a hybrid network of 30+ Windows and UNIX machines, supporting 45+ users.

Born in Lucknow, India, I was educated at St. Vincent's College (Pune, India), Adelphi University (Garden City, NY, US), Oxford University (Oxford, UK), and Columbia University (New York, NY, US). I spent my undergraduate years majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics where my primary research revolved around Non-Euclidean Geometry and Higher Dimensional Mathematics and Differential Equations. At Oxford University, I worked in the fields of Neural Networks, Astrophysics and Astronomy. In 2000, I came to Columbia University and earned my Master's degree in Computer Science, focusing on Collaborative Virtual Environments. My PhD research work, in the field of Software Engineering, focuses on context aware and predictive middleware.

My personal interests include astronomy and stressing about our basketball team (the New York Knicks). I also love photography, and to that end I own a Canon EOS 10D (my baby!), a Canon S400, Canon S230, Canon S300 (yes I love Canon :)) and a Casio Exilim Z4. My favorite genres of music are Trance, Techno and Deep House and I love to spin vinyl on my Technics turntables. I spend a fair bit of my time playing first-person-shooter computer games, with my officemates (ahh! such a wonderful waste of time). And as you can see from my avatar, I love beer ;-). So if you're ever in NYC...

Hey, I love beer too! Last time I was in NY, the only day I didn't bring my Digital Camera with me, I stepped on an elevator with Dan Aykroyd and James Belushi...

With people like you contributing to the site, I know it's going to rock! :rock on dude!:
