Beginning tomorrow, September 12th, the big Pink will be dropping updates to their BlackBerry and Total Internet plan offerings. The Total Internet add-on, which includes unlimited web browsing and data service for devices such Wing and Dash, will drop from $29.99 to $19.99. Sweet! The BIS add-on will remain at $19.99 for customers in need of the full BlackBerry email/web browsing experience. For anyone simply looking for an email solution, however, things are about to get very interesting."

Some pretty good news for all you TMO folks. There was one price hike in the mix of price cuts but overall it is a nice thing to see. I have noticed that some of AT&Ts (formally Cingular) rates are lower and they are offering quite a few more options as far as data plans are concerned. I'm not sure if you need to actively change things with TMO or you just get the new price automatically. Something worth checking into.

That's great news, but I wish they had a plan that didn't include Hotspot access for a little cheaper. I'd be more than willing to pay $10 (and maybe up to $15) to have unlimited data without Hotspots access. Oh wait, just re-read the article and it sounds like the $20 plan does NOT include Hotspots.

Okay, wait now I'm confused, just logged into my account and the $20 plan DOES include Hotspots. So yeah, I wish they had a plan without Hotspots, but with unlimited EDGE data access.

But for now I'm sticking with the $6/month proxy method (until they cut it off), which doesn't allow certain applications access to the internet.

If we already have the 29.99 jobby, do we have to DO anything to get the reduced price or is it automatic starting the 12th? Hopefully the later... I could do without a call to T-Mobile ha.

I don't know T-MO but the other carriers I have been with required a call to get it changed. That and of course renewing the contract.

I agree with T-Will ; sometimes we get duped into thinking things are a good deal when prices get reduced from what was pretty steep. Quite frankly, I think $19.95 is still high for unlimited data. I only pay that for a 3meg connection at home, and really cant justify another 20 bucks for exchange mail and occasional browsing on the phone.
$10 or at a pinch $15, I would maybe pay - without hotspots. Why, oh why can they not offer a plan like this?
Touch wood, the proxy'll keep on working.......

I just logged in to the My T-Mobile site to check into this. On the "Plan & Services" tab, there are two checkboxes for the "T-Mobile Total Internet Add-on", one for $29.99 and one for $19.99. I unchecked the $29.99 box, and checked the $19.99 box, and then clicked "Continue". The next page confirmed that I had removed the more expensive option and added the cheaper one, and, most importantly, my new monthly bill (nice!). There was nothing about renewing or extending my contract. Hopefully, that should take care of it. If I encounter any problems, I'll let you all know.

I agree, $20 a month is still steep, but I've become addicted to having constant data access, and I use Hotmail, which won't work with the $5.99 plan, so I'll take this bone T-Mobile's throwing my way. Thanks, Smartphone Thoughts for bringing this to our attention. I have a feeling T-Mo would have been more than happy to let me keep paying more every month...

You guys don't know how fortunate you are. Here in Canada, the best price you can get is $100 a month for 200MB. There are cheaper plans, but the price per MB increases as you reduce the MB. Unfortunately, there is no unlimited data plans anymore.

$30 a month for unlimited would be a dream up here!

Oh, wow! It looks like Rogers has added a new plan. For $210 we can use 500MB.

$25 gets us 3MB. :( Here's the full price breakdown. This is just one carrier, but they're all in the same ballpark. http://www.shoprogers.com/business/wireless/plans_services/business_plans.asp?plan=dataservice&cat=2&typ=2

Wow!!!
Makes me feel very happy that I can get what I need for $5.99.......even though it should be $19.99......
I can't believe Rogers is doing this. Data is the future; they really need to get more customers on board, so when 3G comes (it's not there yet, right?) folks will pay......
It's similar to the European networks charging to send a SMS, but not to receive. THe US networks, charging both ways - and you cant stop them...

Oh, we got 3G and the CDMA carries all have their 1x or whatever it's called. But the only people using it are business. It's just too costly for the average joe/jane to use. I wish I knew why the carriers feel like they need to charge so much. Do they not understand that they are slowing adoption? The cheaper it is the more people will use it and the more money they make. It's sad.

I keep checking the US carriers for a unlimited data plan that covers all of North America. Because when that comes out, it would be cheaper for me to get a US plan and use it here!

For $30 I'd spend a lot less time in front of the computer and a lot more time using the data that I pay for.

fwiw, I spent a few days in Canada's third-largest city recently and I didn't even touch anything faster than Edge. I was on GPRS for a good chunk of that time and there was even a time when I had no signal at all.

Well that sucks! I get pretty good 3G around here. And when I don't have the full speed, I can tell the difference pretty quickly.

What phone are you using? Perhaps it just didn't show the 3G icon, or maybe it's not the right 3G frequencies. Just a guess. I wouldn't put it past Rogers for not having things setup out that end of the country.

Treo 750 running WM6. It covers all the frequencies. Plus it (supposedly, but not from personal experience) indicates when it has an actual HSDPA signal. Thing is, I've heard that people have had an HSDPA signal in Calgary.

Seems odd that Rogers wouldn't have 3G setup in Calgary. That city is booming and there's lots of money going around. Maybe it's focused in the greater Toronto area because it's the financial core.

I'll never understand the carriers.
