First up, the AT&T Tilt -- alias 8925, alias Kaiser -- is rumored to be priced at $299 on a two-year or $374 on a one-year agreement. The Pantech Duo, which Amazon jumped the gun on over the weekend, will be launching for $199 on a two-year, which makes the Amazon pricing a bargain already. The Nokia 6555 "Inferno" gets priced at $49.99 on contract -- a steal for a sharp lookin' 3G flip, we figure. Last but not least, the Motorola Q9 global finally materializes for a cool $299, putting it head to head with the Tilt. All four of these are supposedly scheduled for shipment to stores on October 1, making for a very interesting month. Everyone know which of the four they're choosing yet?"

We were all dying to know when the Pantech Duo was going to be officially released, and now we just might! It is as if AT&T is on top of the US Windows Mobile Standard world (try saying that five times fast) with the upcoming release of Pantech's super slick looking dual slider phone as well as the upcoming release of the Motorola Q9. If all goes according to plan, October 1st will be the most confusing day of my life as I know my fiance will not let me purchase two new handsets! Now if only AT&T would officially release the new Samsung Blackjack firmware update for all us poor saps that are still using Windows Mobile 5!

No worries, just buy both of them and give one to her. Problem solved. :D

Purchasing both and giving one to her may be dangerous. For years I longed to have my wife use a Windows Mobile device (It's just downright embarrassing for a hard core geek to have dumb phones in the house!) and now that she has my old k-JAM, I think she's on her way to addiction.

Meaning I'll soon have to start buying 'em two at a time!

I'd gor for the tilt, not the Q9. All I've heard about the Q9 is its the same old q in prettier clothing. The pantech? Doesn't do much for me currently.

But then again, Id rather get the HP IPAQ 900 more than the tilt ;-)

Regarding the Q9, while that is the case for the most part of the Verizon Q9m, that is not the case for the Q9h which never had a predecessor. While the Q9m from Verizon uses the same processor and for the most part guts as the original Q, I thought the Q9h had a faster processor, a higher res camera, and some other stuff I can't think of right now.

I have already had her using my old T-Mobile SDA for about a year now :)

But the original 9 had crappy battery life, and none of the 5 people i know with one are happy with it. Infact only 1 still uses it as the other 4 have run acreaming to better devices.

I do see however, that a review has just been posted, so lets see what that says. EDIT - oh, that is for the verizon Q9m, not the h. Sorry.

For me, the Q9h is most appealing.

I have been patiently waiting, and I am ready to retire my 2.5yo Audiovox SMT5600. I need something a little bigger than the SMT5600, but not that much bigger.

Single-handed operation is important to me, as well as a good keyboard, decent multimedia playback (inc. stereo Bluetooth), Bluetooth keyboard, Windows Mobile and 3.5G, of course.

$299 for the Q9h sounds OK but I was hopping to get it under $150 with a renewed 2yr AT&T contract.

*** How would any of you compare the BlackJack (with Windows Mobile 6) against the Q9h (as reviewed in the UK and the USA)?

What else is different between these BJ and Q9h, other than the bigger screen, bigger form factor, better keyboard and more expensive Q9h? I like the bigger Q9h screen but I appreciate the more svelt BlackJack.

*** Any other models I should be considering?

Btw, last week through one of my daily "Search Q9h" on AT&T Website rituals, I ran into an AT&T $50 Rebate PDF which listed the "Motorola Q9h Global". I managed to save the PDF form to disk, but it has since vanished from the AT&T Website.

The BlackJack is a great device, but it's hard to compare it against a device that has yet to hit the streets. If price is your key item, then the BlackJack should be your best choice, as it will be less than the new Q9h.

In terms of screen size, the larger the screen the less sharp it is. All the devices are running the same res. So the smaller it is, the pixels per square inch count goes up resulting in a sharper image.

You might want to look at the Vox, but you won't get that for cheap. Unless AT&T does add it to their line up. Right now, you would have to get an unlocked version which would run you $500 or so.

Brian C. Folk: Can someone PLEASE tell me when any new Win Mobile 6 Smartphones will be released?? I'm particularly looking for the ones made by HTC. It seems that AT&T is determined to be the LAST major carrier to catch up with this, which was released back in February. Thank you.
Thank you for contacting AT&T. A Representative will be with you momentarily.
Justin H: Welcome to AT&T Premier Support, my name is Justin H. I am reading your question and will be right with you.
Justin H: Unfortunately, we have not received any forecasted date as of yet for when WM6 version devices will be available.
Justin H: Is there anything else I may assist with today?
Brian C. Folk: If your section doesn't have this info, may I ask who does? Are they recommending that long-term AT&T customers switch to other carriers?
Justin H: New information regarding devices is posted here when made officially public: http://www.wireless.att.com/about/newsroom/index.jsp

Would someone over at ATT please kick Verizon in the pants?

Ugh - still waiting for them to come out with something new and exciting...
Yes the Q9 - big whoopiee... I have the worst luck with Moto devices so I'll wait until the 6800 - and other HTC devices... Too bad that Verizon is CDMA which really limits anytthing I can do regarding phones (sigh). At least ATT has that going for it.
