When we first saw the HTC Vox (that's developer's code name for the HTC S710 and carrier branded versions such as the Orange SPV E650) in prototype at the beginning of January, we wondered why we, HTC or anyone else hadn't thought of this before? But then, until recently electronics components were too large to add a full slide-out keyboard plus the usual heavy compliment of features to a smartphone this small."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/augusto-20070503-s710review.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />Mobile Tech Review has put together a lovely review of HTC's newest additional to the Windows Mobile Standard family, the HTC S710. This small but sexy handset sports a full QWERTY keyboard as well as Windows Mobile 6. I'm a little disappointed that the camera quality is still not up to par with other devices on the market and the lack of 3G data technology on this handset is enough to make me pass on it. Hopefully HTC will not keep us waiting very long for the release of a HSDPA version of this phone! :)

I think you're using the wrong link there. It should be this:

I'm definetly getting one of these when the German version with QWERTZ keyboard is available here ! It's an amazing device me thinks :!:

I wonder how smooth the transition from portrait to landscape? Do current applications adapt to this dynamic screen format nicely? I mean, what happens if you are in the middle of an application, and you slide out the keyboard and tug it back in - back and forth - will the apps adjust the display properly?

from the videos floating around on the net, the transition is pretty instant. :)

I have had my S710 for a few days now so can answer this question.

The transition takes a few moments (up to 4 seconds). So by the time you have slid the keyboard out, turned the phone around and got your fingers on the keyboard, it is about good to go.

Note this is not the fastest phone on the planet (far from it) but that is one of the trade offs in order to get very good battery life (faster CPUs need more power). Every now and then you find yourself waiting a few moments for the phone to do it's thing but nothing major and you know what? Compared to getting my laptop out of it's case and booting it up just to send an email I can live with it.

Over all, I am VERY impresses with this phone and get more so each day.

This looks like a really cool phone. Anyone know if it'll ever be gsm? Or has that already been answered somewhere?

It is GSM. Quad band to be exact so works both sides of the pond quite happily.
