Windows Mobile powered devices, with their advanced software, processing power and memory, make ideal platforms for the delivery of Windows Live services. Windows Live for Windows Mobile offers one of the first industry examples of a single integrated and presence-enabled contact list on a mobile device. One consolidated list provides customers with easy access to all their Windows Live, Microsoft Office OutlookŪ and other contacts, as well as relevant presence information."</i> <br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20070215-LiveMessenger.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />I'm starting to get confused by all the Live names floating around. :? However, I really like what Microsoft has done with Windows Live on Windows Mobile. When this ships, you'll get Live Messenger, Live Mail (Hotmail), Live Search, and Live Spaces all in one application. Messenger is by far the best part of this tool, in my opinion. You can display your contacts by groups and it even supports sending Voice Clips. It's taken a tool that I almost never used on my phone and made it something that I leave on all the time. It's my understanding that this will be included on Windows Mobile 6 devices and it will be updated directly by Mircosoft. So there's no worry about the operator leaving you in the dust.

Nope, that's Live Search. This is Windows Live for Windows Mobile. Confused yet? ;)

Live Search is pretty cool tool that allows you to get maps and directions for places.

Windows Live is Messenger, Mail, etc...

And once again, I must say the names on these products SUCK.

Microsoft has just announced it, and I expect it will appear with the new WinMo6 devices. So right now, there's no download option. :(

So does this application download all your Hotmail contacts and combine it with the ones on your Smartphone (from Outlook)? I don't like that. I would like to disable that first(?).

aussienick - I removed your link. We don't allow linking to illegal material here. Sorry.

The software has been announced by Microsoft but not made available at this time. Any copies you may find on the net would be considered illegal copies that are not meant for distribution.

Kris, yes - this application will download your Messenger contacts and merge them with your default contacts. On the plus side, it works pretty good this time around. It looks like Microsoft has spent a good deal of time cleaning that process up.

If all you're looking for is an updated Live Messenger for mobile you can get that from Connect, but only til the end of the month.

How does this compare to the beta Windows Live for Mobile that some of us are testing through connect. Have there been any improvements other than better merging of contacts?

I haven't used the beta version in a while. I would suspect that this is just the final release so the changes would be minimal. Did the beta show your MSN contacts by Groups? Online/Offline? I don't think the beta had a home screen plugin - this does. You know, thinking back to the beta, this is a lot different and cleaner. If my memory serves me right.

What is the setup like for the Windows Live Mail? Is it the same as with the Beta version?

I ask because I'm wondering if it's possible to enter in a different reply to email address. I forward my email to Windows Live mail because it pushes to the Beta version for WM5 but right now I have to keep my other account on my Treo for sending mail.

Thanks

I can't recall what the beta version was like. That was a long time ago. This uses Windows Live Mail. I don't see any settings for changing the reply to address.

Thanks Mike,

Is there any option to disable the sync of contacts?

Thanks Mike,

Is there any option to disable the sync of contacts?

Yes, but the real trick is can it be turned off before the first setup. I didn't find the setting when I ran it the first time. I don't know that you can get to these settings before it's first setup. Once it's setup, there is an option to turn off sync of contact and turn off merge duplicates with outlook. If I hard reset and start over, I'll try and remember to look into that a little closer.

I can't stand that either. No off switch, no Messenger for me on my Standard device. 8)

I don't have any Yahoo contacts so I can't really say. I don't see anywhere that I could login to YAhoo. But who knows, maybe it's part of the login for live mail? :?

sorry should have made myself a bit clearer. on live messenger [pc ver] you can add yahoo contacts [same thing with yahoo messenger for pc you can add msn contacts]. so i was wondering if live messenger for win mob also displays the yahoo messenger contacts that have been added on the pc ver.

Ah, I see. I still can't answer because I don't have any Yahoo contacts. ;) I would imagine it supports it, but that's just a guess.

It would be pretty silly if it didn't support it. Hmmmm, we could be in trouble here.

Ok so far I have tried:
--
live messenger PC ver =ok
live messenger WEB ver = no yahoo contacts
live messenger WM ver = unknown
--
I don't have too many msn contacts but am starting to add all my yahoo contacts to msn on the PC and was hoping that live messenger for ppc would let me be able to get in touch with my im contacts from yahoo.

I'm new to these forums, but this seems to be the best place I have found on the net for asking this question.

I have a BlackJack, and will probably buy a Q 9h, and I have a couple questions on Windows Mobile 6 that are bothering me.

I see above that it will sync to windows live contacts, that's nice. answered my first question.

next, is windows live mail support Push or Pull email?

and the last one, please tell me it also can sync your hotmail calendar!

Any help will be most appreciated, as I can stop wondering if it will be the perfect mobile solution for me or not. If these things are true, it will be.

Welcome to SPT, Arcaynn!

Yes, it does support push email.

No calendar support. It would seem logical to include support for calendar sync, but somehow it is missing.

More info on the Windows Live for Mobile over here. (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/microsoftprograms/live.mspx) It is a Microsoft Web page, that states that Hotmail/Windows Live email is pushed to the device.

Aww...

I saw that page before, but as it's not very clear I wasn't sure.

That kinda upsets me... That (calendar sync) was the only thing I wanted for a truly wonderful experience. I wonder why it was not included.

Now I have an extra step in keeping an updated calendar.
