Lenovo made a name for themselves when they purchased IBMs hardware line and it appears they’re not going to just sit back and ride on that one move. Lenovo has announced a couple of Windows Mobile devices. The Smartphone is dressed much like the popular ThinkPad line – all black. It’s a pretty nice look, if you ask me. I haven’t been able to locate any specs on this guy yet, but I will let you know as soon as we get more info.

I like the color, I like the joystick and I sure the build quality is awesome, but look at the overall package. The screen is tiny. The keypad to screen ratio is totally off.

I think we can find better Smartphones elsewhere. Lenovo try again.

Lenovo had a Windows Pocket PC phone out about two years ago - it was pretty horribly ugly (I recall mentioning it either here or on PPC thoughts, I think), with the top-left corner curved, and the top-right sporting a wierdly-shaped antennae. I got to pick one up and play with it at the MBK mall in Bangkok, in I think 2003 or so.

And last year, they had the i921 "WinMo" smartphone, which looks a lot like the touch-screen one one on the left there (in your photo).

The one on the right in the photo does look pretty interesting, if a bit reminiscent of some of HTC's devices with the four silver keys similar to the "music buttons" on some candy-bar phones we've seen from them (HTC, that is).

I haven't seen anything compelling (to me) in the smartphone design arena since I bought my HTC StrTRk last summer, although I'd spring for the same design with a faster processor, and little more storage RAM (and WM 6, of course ;-) )
