Great news for T-Mobile Dash owners (I count myself among them, it's an awesome device).

The Dash is great. I wish Cingular had picked it up. Of course I could get an unlocked one but at this point I'll just wait to see the new stuff.

Hmmm. Now would the Dash run just fine on Cingular's network? I'm thinking about moving over at some point because all my Blackjack coworkers get reception and I don't O-:<. I suppose I'd have to get TMob to unlock my Dash tho, eh?

GSM is GSM, that's the beauty of it. :-)

Does this mean we will be able to upgrade if we have an HTC s620?

Yes it does, I've tried an unlocked one with my Cingular SIM. Works fine. :)

I am excited about the upgrade story, but disappointed that the upgrade will be available only in 2Q 2007. By then I would assume that the first WM6 devices will also start appearing. It will be touch deciding between HTC Vox and Dash with WM6.

Overall the possibility of upgrade explains why HTC Cavalier has been shelved. T-Mobile would have been the only customer willing to take that unit in US and it does not have 3G right now; Dash with WM6 makes better sense.

I think T-Mobile will do what Moto did with the Q. Just like the Black Q that came out with updated firmware <yawn>, the Dash might be relaunched and T-Mobile will offer software download at the same time.

I am one happy Dash user. Been using it on Cingular's network since its launch.

Yea, you'd have to, but TMoblie is very good with unlocking phones hassel free.

Can't wait for this upgrade to be released. Maybe I could actually leave my 4700 home once in a while. Document viewing and editing is what I look forward to most.

I really really hope this is true. Any idea what the upgrade may cost?

Maybe this move will put pressure on Cingular to post an upgrade. :D

Will the upgraded version give me access to all separate Contacts lists and not just the main Exchange one? That's the one thing I really hate. the addition of being able to edit Word docs on the phone is sooo nice.

Don't understand why more carriers aren't. Typically when you get one of these phones, you sign a contract. You are locked into paying them $X a month for a couple of years. Yes you can break the contract, but for a penalty. I don't think you would come out ahead, over just buying an unlocked version.

Does anyone know if the HTC S620 will also be upgradable with the same Dash upgrade. I emailed HTC and they said none of their existing handsets will be upgraded but new devices will be released.

Sort of like my S620 and would like to keep it with WM6 installed.

Oh well....

Right now even the T-Mobile Dash upgrade is not confirmed. All we know is that all the WM6 demoes taking place nowadays, is taking place on the HTC S620. So the WM6 ROM is available for HTC S620, therefore for the Dash.

We will have to wait for an official confirmation from T-Mobile and HTC. :(

BTW...what links did they send you? I don't think HTC has any links for its upcoming products. :?

The link was just to their Europe home page so I took it off my post (about 10 seconds after posting it so you must have only just seen it)...Sorry no leaks there....

I don't think the Dash even has 3G capability.

You can still use wi-fi. You can even use T-Mobile's HotSpot Wi-Fi service, provided at places like Starbucks and Kinko's, for an extra monthly fee if you sign up for it separately at hotspot.t-mobile.com.

I own the Dash, but I just broke the screen (#$@#!!!), and I've played with the Blackjack. I'm considering moving to Cingular. Anyway, here is my quick-and-dirty comparison:

BLACKJACK
sexy, thinner and lighter
3G
3G!
Windows Mobile 6 upgrade uncertain
big screen
keys more spread apart
jogwheel
on default network, voice + data expensive
crap battery life, but comes with two batteries

DASH
arguably sexy rubberized shell
Edge
Wi-fi
Windows Mobile 6 upgrade coming
bigger screen
number keys are actually next to each other
touchpad for volume only unless hacked
on default network, voice + data a bit more affordable
decent battery life, probably because it doesn't use 3G

Basically, if you must have 3G capabililty on the Cingular network, don't buy the Dash.
