Thankfully, that's changing. Osymo has released a new Text Editor that supports Windows Mobile Smartphone devices - including those with landscape screens like the Q, Dash, and BlackJack. It supports standard functions like Copy/Paste, and it will open Text, HTML, XML etc. and even import Microsoft Office Rich Text Format based documents.

Thanks for posting this--I'll give it a try. I've been using Orneta Notepad forever, but am not competely satisifed with it.

Thought I would post a few observations for those interested.
I like the file access dialogs and the quick links to the "Favorites" folders--that's a nice idea. I also like the page up/page down feature. However, that feature does not work on my device - a Motorola Q - with the scroll wheel. Osymo acknowledged this and said they are working on it. The page up/page down does work if I use the D-Pad.

One thing I miss is a recently used file list--Orneta has this. Osymo also stated this is on their list.

I would also like to see an Exit option on the menu when in editing mode. In its current form, you have to press Menu->Close->Menu->Exit just to exit the application.

I do like the feature where if you select Close without saving the file, you can just press Yes and the file is saved and the editor closes--similar to most PC applications. In Orneta, you have to go back and save, then Menu->Exit.
