Looks like Verizon Wireless has decided to internally announce their newest Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone to the lineup, the Black Motorola Q. Now, we know that it looks similar to its silver brother externally, but it comes with a software update named MOL2. This update corrects such issues as the Goodlink data stall issue, adds jog dial control via Bluetooth headset and improves battery life. Expect this black bad boy to cost an extra $50 across the board and to be out on the web December 12th and in retail January 12th. So how far behind will Sprint be? Guesses, anyone??"</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/augusto-20061205-blackq.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />I love how Motorola charges an extra $50 to get the same phone in a different color. Is the black Motorola Q that much sleeker that it actually justifies the extra cash? I think I'll pass on this handset and wait for the Pink or Blue Motorola Q

It does have a nice rubberized coating and hey they can charge more for it and the free software update too. I'll order mine next week.

Has a new rubberized coating on it and they've changed/added a few software fixes.

Dash or BlackJack, it is envy. I'm a bit disappointed that with Samsung and HTC cranking out all these great new devices, all Motorola does is copy the color and the rubber. They should be competing with the next new device, not playing color the Easter egg.

They do have the Q2 (or whatever it's called) in the works, but I think this was just an easy way to allow the Q1 to compete (or fit in?) with the new devices.

I just bought the silver Q last week because I wasn't going to wait any longer for the black one. I wanted to use it now. I would have preferred the black one, but it wasn't worth playing the waiting game when no one could give me a definite answer on when the black one would be available.

I assume that this MOL2 update will soon be available for the silver Q too. Is that a safe assumption? I guess I'll wait and see. I wouldn't have paid an extra $50 for a black one with basically no hardware enhancements. I will keep the silver Q until the Q2 or Q3 comes out.

...added a few software fixes.

not enough to justify $50... at least not to me. then again, im just use to HTC giving away free software updates. ;)

I think you are talking about this. (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12841&highlight=norman) I think that is mostly a software upgrade as well.

This (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/11/09/motorola-norman-aka-q-pro-in-the-flesh/) is what I was thinking of.

The retail pricing for the Black Moto Q is the same as the Silver Moto Q $419.99. Nice to know us retail customers (like me) won't have to pay $50 more on the retail side just to get black.

I know that firmware updates can address battery life, but people seem to complain about battery life and the size of the battery while at the same time demanding smaller and slimmer phones. How do you exepect to get the ultra slim phone with a really big battery and still maintain the slim phone size. Not yet anyways.

The Dash pulls this off pretty well...no reason why Samsung can't (I guess Samsung has to deal with supporting 3G though).
