Here's some Friday fun for your Smartphone. I noticed this post over on CoolSmartphone a while ago and filed it in my to be posted folder, but it seems to have been forgotten about.

AT&T Labs has a web page that will convert whatever you type into spoken word. This allows you to create some extra cool custom ringtones for your device. I created this personalized ringtone that I'll be mandating all Smartphone Thoughts News Editors use for me. :lol: ;)

To add a custom ringtone on your Windows Mobile Smartphone, just edit the contact and scroll down until you see custom ringtone. Point this field to your new sounds and away you go.

Of course, you can always record your own voice saying something goofy and use that for a ringtone, but where's the Geek in that? ;)

Some of those voices are pretty good. :)

Not bad. I may use this just so I don't have the same notification sound for all the different types of messages I receive.

That's a good idea, like one for email etc.

oh, check it out... If you click on the "restrictions" link it takes you to the FAQ which outlines how to insert longer pauses and change voices. 8)

Here's a sample I made for new voice mail --> http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20061006-VoiceMail.wav

i've used this site many times to create custom tones for the family. i have found that misspelling some words produces the correct pronunciation . for exmple, i have a wave that tells me my daughter (eryn) is calling and when i created the wave i used "airren" instead of "eryn". the former spelling produces a more natural pronunciation ... could be that i'm picky...

How long has this site been around?

maybe 1 to 2 years... they've changed the layout but evrything else is pretty much the same ...

Aye, the Canadian French guy is great. "You have a new text message" becomes "oo av a noo tex massage". :lol:

I had fun with Rosa but ended up doing all of my new ringtones in the default voice. :)

Yeah, I found Crystal to be the best sounding voice too.

On a side note, AT&T didn't restrict the use of the 7 dirty words. Not that I'm suggesting using them in a custom ringtone. But it can be fun to play with. :lol:

The actual 7 is described in detail in a George Carlin routine. Funny as hell and I recommend you see it sometime. ;)
