Just wondering if anyone out there had any experience with the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-5mm-to-3-5mm-Stereo-Adapter-Mic-3-black-rings_W0QQitemZ290018589388QQihZ019QQcategoryZ15040QQcmdZViewItem

It purports to be an adapter that includes a mic, so presumably you could use any set of headphones as a headset. If anyone has tried this (or any of the other similar products, including ones with retractable cords or "gold-plated" connections) or has any other feedback, let me know.

When I had my Sony Ericsson p800 (http://www.filesaveas.com/p800.html) I purchased this adapter (http://www.pc-mobile.net/sp8aa.jpg) through Pc-Mobile (http://www.pc-mobile.net/sp800.htm). I mainly purchased it just so I could use my Sony earphones as I do not use handsfree kits much.

It does work and I have used it with my SDA (http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Detail.aspx?device=4d94ce34-4a2b-4e0c-b97e-373968b1957f)

I am a big fan of the adapter myself though the one I use is not very sturdy. I have a feeling that it will fail at some point. The insulation has worn off the wires near the microphone housing but it still works. I also don't like the way the clip attaches to the wire. I am pretty sure that the reason the wires are fraying is the clip attachment.

I owned a couple of the PC-Mobile adapter /mic mentioned by Mark, and while I liked them a lot, they did not last long.
I ordered the "2.5mm 3.5mm Stereo Adapter Retractable Mic 3 rings" from the ebay seller dfeng suggested, and I will post my impression when I receive it (although durability takes a while to experience).
did you end up buying this product?

I received the "2.5mm 3.5mm Stereo Adapter Retractable Mic 3 rings". It arrived very fast and I like it so far.
Pros:
- the plug fits snugly into the phone, does not come out with the slightest pull
- mic works well
- sound is good
- seem durable - time will tell
- clip is handy, works well on a shirt collar

Cons:
- the 3 ring version I got does not work with stereo headphones with my Cingular 2125; the sound is mono. Maybe it sould have been better with the 3 ring (tough I would think it should be the reverse...)
- the cord extends only 26". so depending on what you will plug into it, it may or may not be long enough.

Try to avoid adapters. Mine broke and ruined the speaker on my phone. Luckily the phone was under warranty and could be replaced. IMHO, the default stereo headset from tmobile works fine with mic. only thing is it does not allow you to pause music
