Dr. Richard Lathe, a molecular biologist in the UK, has proposed that the increasing autism rate in Europe is probably linked to old cell phone batteries not being properly disposed of. Studies he participated in point to an environmental factor causing the spike in autism, which he correlates to heavy metals that seep from old batteries."</i><br /><br />What about PDA batteries? What about camera batteries and hearing aid batteries? Please.

While I could not find documentation from the actual study Dr. Lathe did, I did find an article (http://www.awares.org/pkgs/news/news.asp?showItemID=675&amp;board=&amp;bbcode=&amp;profileCode=&amp;section) where he is quoted.

"Think of iPod batteries, computers, television sets and mobile phones - thousands of them tossed aside without any thought to their proper disposal, " says the molecular biologist, who specialises in research into autism and other brain disorders.

And even beyond technology products (quoted from the same article).

Every ship that sinks, every rusting car, every unsealed mine and every tin can in our refuse dumps contributes to a rise in the levels of metal in seawater. It's absolutely clear there is a rise in autism, pointing to an environmental factor, with mercury and other toxic metals playing a crucial role.

So, if you have to throw away your cell phone, don't put it in a tin can that is in the glove box of your rusting car and drive it onto a ship that will sink in the sea.

Be environmentally conscious and place your cell phone in a tin can that is in the glove box of your rusting car and drive it into a mine that will be sealed

Noone ever talks about where all the rubber goes from all the millions opf car tyres we wear smooth on the roads ... I'll bet that has a massive environmental effect. I just don't know what it is :?

It has also been shown that stupidity is linked to eating vegetables, meat, dairy products, whole grains, nuts, sugar, and drinking water as well as breathing. So if we could just get the stupid people in the world to stop doing these things.....

 Nice one. Well, they are stupid, so it shouldn't be too hard to get them to stop. ;)

Re: car tires,
i thought everyone knew that specialty microbes eat and dispose of the rubber.

I bought a replacement PDA battery for my PDA about a month ago from www.laptopsforless.com (http://www.laptopsforless.com/pdahandheldbattery) and it works great. Is there any reason to think that a replacement PDA battery would be any worse than the manufacturer’s replacement? And what about for cell phones? Does a replacement battery work?
