<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.vzwshop.com/q/' target='_blank'>http://www.vzwshop.com/q/</a><br /><br /></div><i>"Motorola, Inc. and Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, today announced that the highly anticipated Moto Q™ will be available starting on May 31. The Moto Q is exclusively available through Verizon Wireless and customers can purchase it online at <a href="www.verizonwireless.com">www.verizonwireless.com</a> on May 31 or at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store on June 5."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20050522-MotoQLaunch.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />I just received a copy of todays press release from Motorola and Verizon. I guess the real surprise here, is that both Ed Zander's comment that the Q will launch this week and Verizon's comment that it won't ship this week, are correct. The product is officially announced and will be available for purchase starting next week. :) Speaking of purchase, the price is truly irresistible. You can pick up this Windows Mobile Smartphone with a built-in QWERTY keyboard for just $199 after a $100 instant rebate, data plan, and a 2 year contract. That's a great deal, if you ask me. <br /><br />You can find the full press release on Motorola's <a href="http://www.motorola.com/mediacenter/news/detail.jsp?globalObjectId=6765_6721_23">website,</a> just in case you're interested in reading it. Or you can check out the product and all it's details over at Verizon's <a href="http://www.vzwshop.com/q/">website.</a>

So is true push email via Exchange Active Sync supported or not? Timed ActiveSync or push? That is the question....

True push email is supported via the GoodMail client, which is a much more business friendly client with features for remote data wipe, remote password management, enterprise class encryption, secure over the air provisioning and management, and more.

AKU 2.0 will probably be released as a firmware update later.

Yeah, I use Good on my Treo650 right now, I do like it a lot - and will probably use it on the Q when I test it out...few little missing functions - you still can't email attachments &amp; you can't create recurring tasks or appointments on the device - but I hear those features are all in their roadmap for future compatability...

All I have to say is that:

As good as an idea it may seem to get the Q, I still vividly remember my MPX 200. Nope, no more Motorola's for me, again, ever, period.

AND who recently measured highest radiation for cellphone manufacturer??

I completely agree that the Q's price is very reasonable. It's Verizon's data plan's that bend you over the barrel.

&lt;--speaking as a current xv6700 user.

im willing to look past the fact that it is CDMA just so i can play with it and review it. I wonder if I can get Motorola or Verizon to send me one

Yeah, I was one of the first ones with an MPx200 back in the day...Moto learned a lot from that as evidenced in the flawless implementation of WM in the MPx220 :D

Let's just hope that by announcing this thing almost a year ago (officially) and taking this long to get it out that Moto learned their lessons from the Mpx200 &amp; MPx220!

Initial feedback from some of the testers out there (not including Ed Zander) is quite positive. I think it's worth a 15 day Verizon preview.

And Verizon's data plans aren't that bad - when you get their bundled voice/data plans it certainly the same or slightly less than Cingular!

I just switched from Cingular (and will probably switch back if they get Q like device) and this is not my experience. I just rechecked both sites for their standard rates and this is what I found:

Cingular/Smartphone/450 minutes/Ulmtd Data - $59.98 total per month

Verizon/Smartphone/450 min Ulmtd Data Core Pkg - $79.99 total per month

Now if you know a way I can knock $20/month off my Verizon bill (minus my applicable discounts), you have my attention. :D

Interesting. I think part of the issue is the device you choose - if you choose anything with a keyboard (Treo or 8125) then you only can choose the $39.99 a month data plan, you can't get the MediaNet plan for 19.99 a month.

I can tell you for sure that if Cingular came out today with a Q and it had UMTS or the other high speed connection you would not be able to configure it with a $19.99 data plan.

That's why I say they are the same

So I don't know all that much about this smartphone. What makes it better or worse than the Treo 700W? I have the SDA and I don't mind Edge and us the wifi a lot. You can get an SDA for $0 and I've added a $90 Stowaway BT keyboard. What would make the Q better or worse than what I already have? It doesn't seem like it's all that different from other smartphones but as I mentioned - I don't know all that much about it. Thanks for your help.

I believe the distinction with Cingular is Smartphone or Pocket PC Phone Edition...

acctually you are mistaken. if Cingular came out with the Motorola Q today the data plan would be $19.99, the MEdia Net Unlimited plan. It doesn't matter if it is 3G data or 2-2.5G data. Data is just data on Cingular. Just because it has a keyboard doesn't mean you pay more, their were several Nokia entry level phones with fold out keyboards that were marketed for email and texting. they were phones first though, texting devices second, so they qualified for MEdia Net. Windows Mobile Smartphones are Phones first, PDAs second, which is why they qualify for the cheaper data plan.

Now if the Q contained a touch screen and was classified as a PDA and not a Smartphone then yes, it would qualify for the PDA Connect plan.

3 questions:

1. I clicked on the link to the verizon site. What's the song that plays in the beginning of the ad? Is it a verizon song or is it a popular song? Thanks

2. What is the doc viewer on the Q?

3. What is "tethering" mean? I've seen this word at a couple of phone discussions but I have no idea what it means.

What is the scoop on MSFP? And what about Stereo Bluetooth?

It is another term for Dial up Networking. Where you use the mobile phone as a data modem for your laptop.

The Motorola Q smartphone was released on Verizon Web site today. The press release last week said it would be offered for $199 with a 2 yr plan and data package. Well, if you are an existing customer, Verizon seems to be saying "screw you" because you can only get it for $299. As a long time Verizon customer, I was hoping to be able to use my customer loyalty bonus of new every 2 (or $100 toward the purchase) and get the phone for advertized $199 - $100 loyalty = $99. But for their loyal customers, they are charging $100 more than a guy off the street. Thanks Verizon! Now where did I put that number for Spint?
