Ever wanted to share photos with your friends and family without paying huge MMS charges? Share device to device without having to go through a web-site? Well now you can, by using a new Windows Mobile application called WpN Mobile, created by photo agency World Picture Network. WpN Mobile allows you download feature stories from around the world ranging in topics from Daily News to Robot Warfare in Iraq to New York Gangs to Bare Knuckle Boxing. Features are packaged into different channels based on topic i.e. Sports, Sci-Tech, and Entertainment etc."</i><br /><br /> <img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Kris-May06-WPNMobile2.gif" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />WorldPictureNetwork is announcing the public Beta release of its Windows Mobile based photo news story reader. Our readers might remember that I had made an <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10282">announcement</a> a while back about this software. As a beta tester, I enjoyed testing this application which is a lot like an RSS reader but with a twist; instead of standard text based news, WpN Mobile uses photographs to convey the story. I enjoy the quality of the photographs offered by WorldPictureNetwork. Now in the form of this public Beta release, this application is ready for a bigger audience and it offers more than just the daily news and feature stories. It also allows you to share photographs with your family and friends. And did I mention that you can catch up on Smartphone Thoughts news using WpN Mobile? 8) Can you spot Jason’s <i>"Come On, Charge Faster!"</i> <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=71291">post</a> in the above photo animation?

One thing I forgot to mention in the main post is to request our readers to post their feedback and comments over here.

How do you share pictures using this? I remember using the beta a while back. It sure looks like it's come a long way since then. :D

Oh it sure has come a long way. :)

You can share photos stored on you phone using the Options->Sharing->Share Photos.

I should have mentioned WpN has published pretty nice user guide to explain how to use this program. It is available in the dowloads section or the direct link is here. (http://www.worldpicturenews.com/wpnmobile/downloads/WpN%20Mobile%20User%20Manual.zip)

I am impressed by the way they have managed to get the Smartphone Thoughts news posts.

I like the way the topic title is superimposed over the photo. 8)

By default the photos are rotated to landscape layout for the optimal viewing pleasure, wish the text was also displayed in landscape mode.

Hi Kris, thanks for the kind words, and for being one of my BETA testers. Glad you liked the manual that was my least favourite bit. I *hate* writing manuals ;-)

One thing I'd like to ask, if anybody doesn't receive the account activation email for your account please email me [email protected] and I will activate your account for you. Some people don't seem to have received it and I'm not sure if this is because of spam blockers, or junk mail filters or not yet.

I should also mention that currently the features stories that update are
Daily News in the WpN News channel (3 x daily)

SmartPhone Thoughts in the SmartPhone Thoughts channel (2 x daily)

The Week In Pictures In the Week In Pictures Channel (1 x weekly, and you can see past weeks in there too)

The Week In Blogs (weekly)

All the other features are meant to be read once then removed from your device.

Cheers
