The device has also powerful connectivity features, including WI-FI (not sure) and Bluetooth. The FCC pages do not reveal information on its display, but we guess it is a QVGA 240x320, 65k color TFT one, and secondary unit is located on the front shell for caller ID functionality."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Temporale-20060505-Pantech.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/> <br /><br />It looks like Verizon is getting ready to launch more Windows Mobile devices than just the Motorola Q. PanTech's PN-820 has received FCC approval and the pictures clearly show a Verizon logo on the device. Is anyone else starting to think that 2006 might be the year of the Windows Mobile flip phone? ;)<br /><br />FCC documents can be found <a href="http://tinyurl.com/jo87g">here.</a>

Where's my Scrolling Click wheel! *grumble grumble*

:bad-words:

I sure hope its a flip phone kinda year. I'm sick of scratched screens and bulky candy bars. Having to buy cases, etc.

This thing has WiFi [Based on the user guide]? :? Wow!

I doubt it if Verizon will release it with WiFi.

Well, based on the i730 and XV6700, if they do release it with WiFi, they'll disable simultaneous operation (although those two phones have been trivial to hack--a registry change--to get simultaneous WiFi and CDMA).

Anyway, about freaking time Verizon gets a Smartphone (Mike, they do already sell three WM devices, just Pocket PCs. :P). Could Verizon actually be selling 4-5 Windows Mobile devices by the end of this year? 8O

I never said they didn't (or did I... I don't recall), I just said they're getting ready to launch more than the Q. Anyway, it doesn't matter, I don't count those PPC things. That's not a real phone. ;)

Yeah, but who wants a "real phone"? After all, as I'm sure Jerry would agree, a real phone has a rotary dial. ;)

Ah, yes. Good old rotary dial. Jeez, I miss those days. They can't put those on mobile phones. Can you imagine how much extra that would add to the device!

Really? 8O I hated restarting dialing a number when I dialed the wrong one or I didn't entirely cycle one through. Give me my current smart dial-based life any day over rotary... ;)

Oh sure, SmartDial is nice, but don't you miss the old days? I used to try and dial as fast as possible without making a mistake. You just can't have a challenge like that with SmartDial. ;)

Touch Tone button dialing IS FOR THE WEAK!

Rotary pulse, it's retro, its clean, its what Hip. Yesterday is today. Get with it guys.

Back in my day we used morse code and WE LIKED IT!

So when is Pantech releasing a GSM model to the US? I really need to retire this MPX220.

Well, this one is a Verizon phone and since it just got approval from the FCC I would say it should be out in a couple months. With that siad, Verizon seems to like these 6 month exclusive deals. So I would guess you won't seem a GSM version for at least 6 months. More likely 8-10 months.

If this sells well, maybe it would release the stranglehold HTC has on the smartphone market? Competition is good!

Well, Samsung is an active manufacturer of CDMA Windows Mobile devices, too. I think it will be some time before HTC's stranglehold on the GSM market changes.

Has anyone heard anything new on this? Per Engadget Mobile (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/08/31/roc-a-fella-shows-three-new-verizon-wireless-winmo-devices/), it's supposed to be released this week (Friday)...

Looks like it will be released on December 29 (http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/11/19/verizon-wireless-branded-pantech-pn-820-pictures-leaked/)!

It'll do! We're back on Verizon now, and I've been waiting for a replacement for my wife's 2125. This should do the trick, although I could do without the external antenna.

Has anyone heard anything about pricing?

December 29th has come and gone, and still no phone. It's OK - we got the 3125 instead, but I would rather consolidate our plans.

Now it's February 16th - 4.5 months after the first supposed "release date".

Wow...am I the only one who's excited about this phone? It was released last night on Verizonwireless.com and unless I'm overlooking posts in another thread nothing has been mentioned about it's release. I thought more people would be all over this one... Well I ordered mine last night and should have it by Tuesday...It's killing me to wait that long....

The only one? Have you read the last 7 posts (6 of which were mine)?!? ;)

I just got tired of waiting, unfortunately. I'll still take a look at it, but unless it blows away the 3125, I'm not picking one up.

Do you have any idea what the data pricing will be? They can't charge $45/month for data on this phone.

Unfortunately...yeah they are charging $45.00/month for data.. I know...it stinks....I have the 3125 also but Cingular is just not as good in my area as Verizon.
