The Treo 700w isn't a Smartphone (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/smartphone/default.mspx), but it is a smartphone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smartphone). :)

Yeah, I really hate what the media and Microsoft have done with naming. The media seems to think that any phone that does email and web is a smartphone. And Microsoft, well they could have picked a better name to help avoid confusion.

Hasn't the term smartphone been around for much longer than Microsoft's Windows Mobile device of the same name?

Yeah. That's why Microsoft decided to use a capital S in their version. That way there won't be any confusion.
