Funny thing, Everytime these guys would send us a press release I would fire back asking if this meant that they now support Windows Mobile Smartphones. Not once did I get a reply. Now, they launch a Smartphone beta and they don't even send us a notice.

I used to enjoy them on earlier PPCs, but they seemed to have spotty support of even WM2003 devices. They went their own viewer route instead of just viewing in a browser (PIE) and things never seemed to work right. I weened myself off of them using RSS and connected devices, WiFi, GPRS, and haven't looked back. On a phone device, not sure I would value an off line viewer.

AvantGo is still around? Who would have thought?

I agree with Sven, now we are connected pretty much all the time and have some nice RSS options, why would AvantGo be needed anymore?

Just today I was at a rather boring seminar (other than my part) and being able to keep up with the news and my email using the hotel WiFi was great.

It is true the thing is kind of outdated now. Like I said it was out of nostalgia. :)

Is it? There's a difference between reading an RSS feed and downloading specially formatted HTML for off line viewing. Does today's Avantgo actually read RSS feeds?

Well I'm not sure. I'm not real familiar with rss. Here is the link I was reading. Is this the same as a standalone rss reader?

Avantgo offers the most to those of us without a data plan. I don't have much need for it now, but there are some people that do.

I stopped using it about the time they went with their own browser. It never worked very good after that.

Are there any good free RSS readers out there for the smartphone OS?

At the bottom of that page it lists the compatible OS's and the Smartphone isn't one of them. :? I can't say for sure, maybe the beta has this.

Geekzone had a free version of NewsBreak - I think it was limited to 5 feeds. There is also one we posted on the front page the other day: Dealexec (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10744) There's also SmartRss, but I don't know how much longer that will be free for - since NewsGator bought it up.

I've been playing with it and oddly enough, the Smartphone version works better and faster than the PocketPC version. It's still the same old AvantGo though. :(

I agree, I must have signed up for WM notification 2 or three times. I still use avantgo on my PDA for booring meetings, so might try in on my 2125

Well my happiness to see this on the Smartphone was short lived. Every other sync attempt after the first one has been a failure. It either hangs or errors out. So much for nostalgia. Deleted and forgotten.

wow! have been using the last 2 days and syncs fine on my storage card using a Edge connection and WIFI. In fact I added a couple RSS feeds and this program really works well as an RSS reader. Better than any I have tried. Just wish they added Podcasting!

BLAH! I'll pass on this entirely. Not even a relevant program anymore.
