Help anyone.

I'm trying to conect my SDA to my XP computer, but can't get it to create the partnership.

So far I've tried the following:
1) turned off Norton firewall,
2) turned off Windows Firewall (well it was already off, I just verified it was off)
3) turned off Norton Antivirus
4) added port 26675 to the allowed ports in Norton (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/norton.mspx)
5) hard reset on the phone

When I look at the device manager in XP, it shows unknown device in the usb devices, I tried deleting that and re-installing activesync. It didn't work.

Additionally, I was able to get a bluetooh connection set up between the phone and the computer, but active sync doesn't see it.

Anyone have any other ideas.. ??

Yeah, sounds like you don't have AS4.1 . Make sure you have 4.1 if you're connecting a WinMo 5 device. :)

Thanks for the response...

version 4.1.0 - build 4841

The computer is Win XP home SP2

oh, other things I've tried...
1) used different USB cable
2) tried uninstalling the Usb "unknown device" while in Safe mode. (i was able to uninstall it, but it was recreated when activesync was re-installed).

still no go.

Just to clarify what I mean by "no partnership" - I plug in the SDA, and activsync starts up... but it just says "connecting", and the little green symbol just spins.

Have you tried a different USB connector on the PC?

yes, I have tried different USB connectors - I have 2 in the front, and 2 in the back -- I've tried them all.

also - I'm using it directly (no hub).

UGH!

My idea box is almost empty. Hard reset the device?

I would uninstall AS and then do a fresh install. Sounds like something is a little messed with AS. A fresh install might help. And it's easier than a hard reset. ;)

I've tried that several times.... I've been pretty amazed that the uninstall doesn't delete the Activesync directory and that it has to be deleted manually.

I've done the hard reset also.. took me forever to figure out how... (with the device off and unplugged, press and hold the 2 softkeys then press the On button for 2 seconds,,, press 0 when prompted).

I'm gonna try to install this on a different computer tonight,, if it doesn't work, I'll take it back to T-mobile...

Man this is frustrating... thanks for the help though

I have a problem too... My C600 used to work fine with Activesync 4.1. Until one day when it failed working, it froze and I had to hard reset it. Still it wouldn't work. It would remain stuck on "Looking for changes". I tried just about anything. I thought it was due to Norton Antivirus 2006. I formatted my PC, reinstalled Windows XP Professional with SP2 + all updates from Windows Update site. I did not install any firewall or antivirus and also I disabled the Windows Firewall. Still I cannot synchronize. This time I get "No partnerships. Not connected" although the Activesync icon is green as if connected. I cannot browse my device, I cannot do anything. And all this happens on a fresh install of Win Xp and on a factory-default SPV C600. This in unbelievable.

i had this same problem on my laptop. what i did was completely delete all partnerships in activesync. did a hard reset on the phone and then reconnected the device to the computer. if that doesn't work the only other thing i can suggest is making sure all partnerships are removed and then, if you have your windows xp sp2 install cd, do a "repair" on your windows installation (not a reinstall, a repair, search google for detailed instructions)

I'm having the same freaking problem, and it's aggravating me. I've yet to make a successful ActiveSync 4.1 connection on either my laptop or desktop (fresh install of XP SP2). I can, however, use my SDA as a modem using the drivers supplied on the CD ( : ... that doesn't really help with the peace of mind syncing gives you, though.

I think I'll spend an evening with the ActiveSync specialist(s?) at T-Mob and see if they can't quell my frustrations before I returned the darned thing.

Quite a few people, myself included, had very similar problems with the Cingular 8125. I know, different carrier etc. The problem had to do with the proxy settings in the connections area. I ended up deleting the proxy server and it finally started to sync.

Jerry,

Thanks for writing. Do you mind pointing me in the right direction (or thread)? I'm not sure where to find this proxy server option.

Appreciated,

You might not even have that option. It was in the network connection settings on the 8125 which is not a Smartphone. I only suggested it because maybe some other connection setting might be messing up your sync. I'm not familiar with any T-Mobile settings. Sorry I can't be more help. :(

It sounds as if you're combining a few setup issues...

1) Before pairing on bluetooth get the USB stuff working correctly. I had the unknown device and it was all related to the cable. Once I figured out which of the 5 cables originally came with the device the right RNDIS device was found.

2) Get active sync working via USB - there are a bunch of application exceptions and ports that you need to open up In and Out. I know you're using Norton but the concepts are similar.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/help/activesync/trend.mspx

3) Activesync via Bluetooth won't work until all the apps and ports above have been added and allowed. I can't believe Microsoft and Widcomm made it this difficult. Delete all bluetooth discovered devices (pairing relationships) in the phone setup. On your Bluetooth setup on the pc note the Com ports shown on tab not called Client...I can't rememeber the tab name but it is to the left of the Client tab. This is the com port that you should configure in Active 4.1 sync drop down. Start Activesync on the smartphone and select to conect via Bluetooth. You'll be prompted that there are no known devices allow this wizard to scan for a bluetooth device and your'll see your PC show up, select it and then you'll see an Activesync service to select. proceed through the wizard until it completes. When you Activesync over bluetooth you always seem to have to select connect via bluetooth.

4) Within the PC setup of Bluetooth disable the headset service. My PC always answered my smartphone when it rung an was in range.

I am having almost the exact same issue. However my situation differs as I am able to browse my SDA through my computer and my USB ports do recognize it. I have tried this on 2 separate computers with the same results.

When I try to use ActiveSync to synchronize my Outlook 2003 (home computer – no exchange server) with my SDA nothing will happen. I only syncing contacts (80), tasks, and calendar. I am using version 4.1.0 (Build 4841) via a USB connection. I do have firewall software (Zone Alarm free) installed but have disabled them just to try to get this working. On my router I have opened the ports designated by Microsoft that was needed to for TCP/UDP. I have installed the software from the CD that came with the phone and also downloaded it from Microsoft’s website all with the same results.

First off I should be able to click on the Tools menu to get to the Options, Schedule, Add Server Resource, etc. but they are grayed out. I have never had them enabled. The Advanced Tools selection is available at all times and the Explore Smartphone will enable when the phone is hooked to the computer. When I hook the SDA up it will start off with Connecting and then go to Synchronizing but it will never sync. On the ActiveSync window (pc or phone) there is the information type with a status column and nothing ever displays there. I would assume that it would have a percentage or a bar graph or something. I have received these to error codes after sync has tried to happen. The first is “0x80072EE2” while the second is “0x80072EFD” and I do not see anything that pertains to ActiveSync on Microsoft’s site with those errors.

On another note. I am curious to know something about the contacts. For instance if I have 2 computers that I sync with. On computer A I have just the contacts that I want listed in my phone (I exported my contacts to this computer just so I would have only the ones I wanted in my phone). While on computer B it has my contacts that I do not want listed in my phone as well as the ones that I do. I also want my calendar and task ran from computer A. If I synced with computer B would all of my contact that I do not want on my phone be put on there? Is there a way to mark what contacts you want transferred or does it just do everything?

Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

I've been on the phone with T-Mobile customer service regarding synchronization issues. Although mine haven't been resolved, there was a lady in the PDA group (say "Blackberry" at the voice prompt) that mentioned an error code similar to the one you're describing. If it's the same error code, then this advice may be useful to you: Once the error code appears, it prevents any future syncs from succeeding. IIRC, her solution was to delete the device from add/remove hardware and reinstall it. Anyway, give tmob a call if you're still having trouble.

Now I don't know how much faith to put in the tmob CSRs as this phone is fairly new. Going off on a tangent here, but ... the same lady told me that there is no way to perform a keylock on the phone when you're on a call (the manual doesn't help in this regard). I thought this was preposterous but she insisted this was fact based on the information available to her (nobody likes to play the fool). Turns out you simply tap the power button and a "keylock" option will appear. O :

Did you ever get this issue resolved ?. I just purchased a MDA "Love it, other than the sync issue". Please share the resulution.

Thanks

Generally I've had to reset the Partnership / server relationship when I get fatal ActiveSync errors. I've had it happen once on my SDA.

For anyone still haveing troubles with syncing WM5, try loading active sync 4.2 beta. It took care of my trouble syncing my MDA.
