This time, they have published a review of the device (In Italian) and the pictures clearly show the Star Trek with a couple different colours for the front and back panels of the phone. RAZR-like? yes, but I wonder if it's more of a replaceable faceplate type thing like those old Nokia's everyone used to have. Alright, who wants one? :D

my girlfriend was going to use my old 5600 but bought a pink razr instead. she doesn't really like the phone cause its slow but she only has it because its pink.

now she'll be happy as a kid in a candy store if i can get her this :)

Ooooh Jerry, maybe they'll have a mauve one to replace your Razr!

I prefer flip phones. Dual screened like my current POS MPX220 is really nice to have as well. Don't know why I necessarily like them better. Perhaps the feeling of the screen being protected? They're, for the most part, shorter when stowed. Other than that - No real reason I guess.

I look forward to seeing formal reviews of the final release of this. HTC makes solid products and I can only hope this will be one of them.

PS I'll be boring and get a plain black or silver one. I'll let Jerry and Optikal's wife be racy and live on the edge...

pps - YIKES! Only a 750mah battery?!

Also notice the new style of cuts in the numpad in the picture near the bottom of the page, I like it much better than the tripple circle stupidity from before. I really hope Cingular/at&t get this one and subsidize the bejezus out of it; I'll buy two if so!

I am also not a big fan of the circles.

Google translation over here. (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pocketpcitalia.com%2FRecensioni%2FSmartphone%2FAnteprima%252DQtek%252D8500%252D%2528HTC%252DStar%2F&langpair=it%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools)

AHA!

The removal of the sportellino does not extinquish the device, rendering possible the change of card of memory without the extinction of the device. (gotta love google translate :) )

It lets you swap out the card without powering down! Sweet! This is actually nice because your card is protected inside from accidental disconnects/drops.

One thing I'd like to see is the size of the keyboard compared to the SP5. From the pictures of the two phones, it looks as though the flip keys might be quite a bit bigger.

If the flippy phone had a larger screen as well (it looks to me that it's the same as the SP5 one) it would be close to being the perfect Smartphone.

I don't like the rating on the battery - 750mAh! That is less than the 1000+mAh on our current Smartphones.

One step forward, one step backward.

Hopefully they've found a way to squeeze a little more life out of a battery. ;)

Or, perhaps, the 750mah battery is the one they used for the pre-production models. This is typical as well, especially if they are having custom sized or custom manufactured batteries.

Hello.
Does anyone know projected release date? And if it will support bluetooth stereo!
Thanks.

I like that idea too. Here's hoping! :D

Nothing has been announced on the iMate, however the QTEK version of this was said to be available in May. Typically, iMate and QTEK release their devices around the same time.

When I saw the first preview pictures of the phone, I didn't care for the key pad at all. I really didn't like the three circles on the keypad but I love the new square cut keys. Let's hope that HTC is listening and will avoid the gimmicky keypad.

The only other thing that bothers me is the lens for the camera. Does anyone else feel a little creeped out by the similarities to the HAL 9000?

Hey, nice catch. I didn't even notice that. I agree, the new keypad is much nicer to look at. Hopefully they will stay with it.

Creepy? Nah, that's part of the appeal. ;)

Wow, moto could buy it from HTC and release it.

Each time it goes to make a call,
I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that then shuts down.

sdvick,
I think Mike likes the round design on the keypad - it reminds him of the SPT background of the circles on the gray background :)

What's with the crop circles anyway? I know they are a "design" feature, but am I the only one that think they are more of a distraction than a design element?

BTW - since they've put together a nice flip phone design, why not go the rest of the way and make it a touch screen so you could have an on screen keyboard for email responses. They could have enlarged the screen a good bit given all that wasted bezel around it. T9 SUCKS (I know. I tried it on both the Samsung 5600 and Cingular 2125, and now face corrective thumb surgery). :(

This looks like a very interesting phone...my wife is counting the days until she can get rid of her Telus phone and get a GSM phone, and thus be able to use some of my "cool phones". ;-)

Fear the spouse with Gadget envy! Put those babies under lock and key.

Thank god my wife just rolls her eyes at my "toys" (as she calls them). But she more than excited when I pull out my smartphone and get the address to her fabric store off the web! I always say "see my toys are useful" - she rolls her eyes again. HEATHEN!

DStrauss - my point exactly. I cant use my SP for messaging - T9 and I don't mesh well at all. I'll read the message then call them up :) or I tether my 4700 to my SP and do it from there using calligraphy.

PINK?????

If I were King this would not be allowed! HTC, let's talk ok? You don't have to go down this road. Let Motorola make the silly phones!

:really mad:
