I know you've been waiting forever, and it starting to seem like it might never be released, but we're starting to get word on when we might see MFSP updates from a couple carriers. So far, we've got word on Orange and i-mate. With any luck, we'll hear something from Cingular in the coming days. :D

Gears @ Cool SmartPhone" (http://www.coolsmartphone.com/news2183.html) - "Jeremy Platt has emailed in about the new push email facility coming from Microsoft. According to what he's heard, the ROM update for Windows Mobile 5 devices on Orange should be available before the end of this month. To make that news even better, the ROM upgrade will be an incremental one. This means that you guys won't have to do a complete ROM re-grade - these are usually pretty hefty 11Mb downloads."

Jason Dunn @ Pocket PC Thoughts (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=390269) - "Artak Abrahamyan , *Technical Support Specialist *from i-Mate, responded to my email requesting when they'd be releasing MSFP updates ...Although I requested information about which devices would be receiving updates, he didn't provide that information. My hope is that it will be for all of the Windows Mobile 5.0 devices that i-Mate has released so far. Looks like we'll see this in early March."

If Cingular realeases the update and it contains the A2DP profile I will eat my feet.

I think they are waiting to see what happens with RIM and if nothing happens they don't need to release it. Why deal with the increased customer calls on the issue? Then they don't have to think about not telling the CSRs about somthing they'd need to know to help a customer.

As for A2DP Cingular and the other US carriers are basically lazy ass sob money hungry evil bastards and why release it when they can release a new technologicaly retarded different coloured razr or slvr.

I'd pay to see that
The incremental update statement makes me nervous on two levels. First it appears that things could well be left out with that sort of implementation. Like Xultar, I am much more interested in other aspects of AKU2, such as A2DP, than the push e-mail. I'm sure there are bug fixes as well as feature updates. Rather not have the OEM pick and choose what new 'feature' we do or don't need. Secondly, when we have had minor/incremental updates on PPCs in the past, rather than full ROM replacement updates, it has tended to be something loaded in RAM, taking space and not being hard reset proof. Not sure if that would be the case these days, but I haven't seen a partial ROM replacement in some time.

No offense, but your wrong... Cingular wants this out sooner than later. This is a HUGE feature of WM5 that will really drive sales of this device...

Additionally it isn't Cingular's product so they really won't need to support it other than basic confirmation that the device is connected to the network.

Actually, when Cingular released 8125 two weeks ago, it publically stated that Cingular WILL release AKU2 update 1H 2006. Now that's the only US carrier I know stated support of AKU2 patch.

As for A2DP profile, from the review I read, I slows down the phone to its knees. You can't play a video while use BT headset with A2DP.

No reason for it to be released that way. Gotta assume the review was of a development version. I've run A2DP on an rx3715 and an X50 with no performance issues.

The review just posted days ago with a pretty recent version of the patch. I'd say it is as close to final release as you can get. Remember smartphones/PDA phones like Cingular 2125 and 8125 run on a much slower processor (200MHz OMAP) than your X50.

of course theyre money hungry, if they weren't money hungry then there wouldnt have been any point in opening up for business. money is what drives any business, you cant pay the bills or your employees paychecks with just smiling happy faces.

as for this update i would expect to see it soon. why? well because this would give Cingular branch stores a new product to sell, bluetooth stero headsets.

I work for Cingular so I can tell you right now Cingular, as well as the other carriers, make all there real money off accessory and feature sales. We lose money on ever handset that leaves the store but we make all that money back by getting you to purchase CLAs (cigarette lighter adapters), leather cases, bluetooth headsets, wired headsets, etc. If your not interested in accessories there are always a ton of features such as text messaging, multimedia messaging, early N/W's, roadside assistance, web browsing, etc.

not releasing this update would just cut into our profit margin. especially when we have business customers that would be willing to pay extra money to get push email on their WM5 devices.
