Unfortunately it looks like the Tornado gained the same unsightly bulge Cingular's 2125 did when it hit the streets on its US release, but better here and uglier than not here at all (except but by import), right? We know it'll be for Q1 release, but stay tuned for exact details on pricing, release dates, availability, etc."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/Jerry-tmo_sda_mda.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />They were doing fine until they called it the "unsightly bulge"! Uglier? Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At any rate T-Mobile is finally joining the party with these devices. I hope that date holds.

Must come back to senses. :twak: I am no longer with T-Mobile. I am with Cingular. And I am in love with the 2125.

Any idea if either of these will have Wi-Fi?

how do T-mobile's data plans work (cost)?

checked T-mobile's website and the closest thing would be a sidekick unlimited data plan for $29... but someone on the engadget site mentions that they get unlim. data with a 4.99 T-zones plan.

can you really get unlimited data with a 4.99 plan?

is this similar to Cingular pushing $40+ data plans for the 2125/5600 when you only need a $19.99 MediaNet plan?

Somehow I doubt that TMo will begin selling both phones on 2/19. TMo is known for repeated delays.

It is rumored that the T-Mo version will have WiFi, but we don't know for sure.

given that this was expected to be released back at the start of December....

I don't think Cingular is pushing the $40 plan for the 2125 and 5600. I have the 2125, and am paying only $20 for the MEdia Net plan.

The $40 plan is for the PDA class devices only. Don't ask me why they have this weird pricing. We shouldn't really complain as long as 2125 requires only the $20 plan. ;-)

T-Mobile does have a $4.99 plan with unlimited data. :) But it limits access to only a set of ports, like HTTP, SMTP and POP3 etc. For FTP and VPN access, you need to switch to the higher plan, the $19.99 one.

2/19 :? Isn't it supposed to be 1/19? Only few more hours to go...

So, that's the same as Cingular's Media NET plan vs PDA data plan.

hmm, all I need is POP3 and access to an RSS application... Do RSS applications that download podcasts use FTP or just HTTP?

leaning towards the T-mobile anyway as I like the sound control buttons on the humpversion of the SP5M

I just picked up a Cingular 2125, and I spoke to Cingular about the Medianet vs the data plans. They stated that the medianet still only allows for 5 MB data after that you pay. Just like the 19.99 basic Data plan.

Is this true?? I know I have seen a lot of talk on the forums re: using the old Media Works plan with Cingular for unlimited data access.

Thanks

It would depend on how the link is put into the RSS. It could be either. However, I think most use HTTP.

I went to the cingular store in Chicago today (on Lasalle st). - the placard next to the audiovox 5600 mentioned a 39.99 data plan - I asked if I could get a medianet 19.99 plan - and the guy said I wouldn't be able to get email with MediaNet- but then, he said that the Audiovox has EDGE (which I believe is incorrect)

I also went to the T-mobile store - the sales chick had an email from corporate, the SDA (the sp5m with a hump) will be released on 2/13, no pre-orders yet, no pricing info, but it includes WIFI. .... added my name to the list.

forgot to ask when the other T-Mob. device was coming out.

I just added the Medianet for 19.99 with unlimted data. I was going to cancel my contract with Cingular, and the customer agent then told me about Media Net. He didn't know if I could use it with the 2125... I told him that it was a phone... not a PDA like the HP's. He said okay and added it.

Cool......

So now things are much better.

BTW the T-Mobile SPm5... does it run Windows Mobile 5?

I did get a private message from a reader who had talked to the T-Mobile data group and the date mentioned was Feb 20th. :)

I must also add that I have not confirmed this news, and seems like we are getting conflicting reports - 2/13, 2/19, 2/20. :?

Yup. (they're not calling it the SP5m. For some reason they think SDAII sounds better.  )
