Saw this over on the Cingular forums today:

8125 = 4 hours of battery time w/ no calls?
2125 = WiFi only disabled in the menu? Hardware still there?

There are some interesting posts about issues/annoyances on there.

As much as I would like to believe that the WiFi hardware is still in there, I highly doubt that is the case. It would be nice, but there's no way they are going to let that happen.

It's far more reasonable to think that they removed the hardware and left the files on the system. The files are most likely smart enough to realize there is no hardware to support it. This is how Bluetooth was done back in the day when not all the phones supported it. :)

I think I have seen that post somewhere else also...

:-)

I agree with Mike, WiFi is disabled at hardware level.

HTC has a similar model C600 selling in Europe which has the same spec. So I am sure they have different designs.

Manufacturers need to cut cost at penny & dime level. Even an extra solder joint would cost them a lot when you account for the volumes they are producing. ;-)
