I went to check my phone for the time and saw the Audiovox splash screen on it, tried to power cycle the phone... no go. Pulled the battery and powered it back on and nothing but the Audiovox screen.

Is it dead? Anyone have a way around this or ever encountered it?

I have a sneaky feeling I might be going broke buying a new phone today! Please help! (if possible)

I haven't had the problem with a SMT5600 myself. I would pull the battery for a good couple hours. Then reinsert the battery and plug it in, but don't turn it on. Let it do it's thing for another couple hours. Then, with the phone still plugged in, attempt to turn it on.

I have seen something similiar with the Voq, and was able to get it up and running using this method.

Look at the bright side, maybe you can replace it with a new Cingular 2125 :)

(Good luck on getting the SMT-5600 back in operation)

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I also posted on the Cingular forums to see what one of their employee's had to say if anything (maybe they haven't seen this either).

woohoo! My AT&T SMT5600 was still under warranty! I had to buy a temp phone at the store which I can return for a full refund when my replacement arrives.

I asked her about the 2125 and she didn't have good things to say about it. Her advice was to come back to her after using it for a month. Her friend who was testing it hates it she said.

By far the best customer experience w/ Cingular I have ever had. Both in store and on the phone when talking about the replacement.

and amazingly... my previous SMT5600 just turned on. I don't trust it, so I'll just continue with the warranty replacement.

The Cingular version has a few things that my old AT&T model lacks.
1) more characters in the # option of entering text
2) icon at the top bar when in silent mode
3) appears to the be faster/more responsive
