Someone has built a client app for the Pocket PC that interacts with Virtual Earth! It runs on both Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs. Features include browsing VE road and aerial maps, address and place finding, yellow page searching, GPS support, thumbstick navigation, and integration with Pocket Outlook for finding contacts! Best of all, VEMobile features a cache of previously viewed maps, greatly improving performance and providing an offline experience."</i><br /><br /><img src="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/images/virtualearth.jpg" alt="User submitted image" title="User submitted image"/><br /><br />Since there were no Smartphone screen shots of this I took one from my own phone. You are looking at Disneyland in California. You can't argue with free can you? They even let you download the source if you want it. To my surprise it really wasn't all that sluggish over GPRS.

Cool. The cache feature alone would make a huge difference. It was pretty painful at times to try and locate something. It sounds like this update will really change that. 8)

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the earlier version allowed for a choice of installation location. This version does. :)

Oh.... I think you're right. I don't recall it prompting me during the install. I can check later tonight when I uninstall this version. :D

Wow, this is pretty cool. Anyone able to get Find a Contact working? On my i600 it's greyed out.

The "find contact" is greyed out on the sample screen shots as well. I'm getting ready to download this to my i600.

That and the GPS feature leverage new managed APIs in the Windows Mobile 5 so they are disabled on older versions of the OS.

D'OH! Alright, where's my Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone? Oh, that's right... It's currently marked as "ships in 12 days". It's a good thing I pre-ordered back on the 3rd of October, when it said "ships in 7 days". Thanks Expansys!

All these cool updated applications, I all I can do is watch.

I get an error message that some files are missing when I open this on my i600. Is this for Smartphone 2003 and above? Or is there a trick I'm missing?

I installed this on my SMT 5600 on T-Mobile USA but can't seem to successfully open it. I can launch it and i see the "address" and "menu" soft buttons, but the Red/Green/Blue/Yellow "wait" icon shows and doesn't go away. I've waited for intervals of 10 min+

I've rebooted the phone and tried relaunching as well. please advise

You do have a data plan, no? It does need a GPRS connection to get the data to display.

Yes, I have the $4.99 T-Zones plan w/ T-Mobile. I have no problems checking wap sites and sending email via POP3. I do not have the $19.99 plan and thus I cannot use MSN Messenger, Corp email, or Blackberries with my plan

Any suggestions?

See if you have a friend with the $20 plan and see if it works for him/her. Could be using something the $5 plan doesn't allow. I'm on Cingular with the $20 thing, so hard to say. It takes a while to build the graphic, but certainly not 10 minutes.

Anyone out there with the $5 T-zones that has it working?
