Pocket XM Radio gives you access to unlimited XM Radio from your Smartphone without the need to buy a receiver. You can listen to 100% commercial free music and even create a favourite list. A valid XM radio account is required to use this software past the trial period. You can download a trial version or purchase a copy from our affiliate store for $14.95. If you download it, be sure to let us know about your experiences with it. :D

UPDATE: I made a mistake above, there is no trial version. :( Sorry everyone.

OR, you can just use the freeware solution from the TendoMentis blog that sets up ONE playlist (that you don't have to pay for) that has all the XM stations available for you to just CLICK on.

All you have to do is have a valid XM online account for it to work.

Why pay for what's already available for free? Not that I don't respect the guy that put together a program for this, but if a free solution was already available, why be redundant?

Why be redundant?
Why be redundant?

I didn't know there was a free version available, and judging by the amount of people that told us about this one, I'm guessing a lot of people didn't know. Do you have a link?

I tried the Pocket XM application, here are my experiences so far:

Pros:

Way easier to use then the freeware solution (if its the same one I used where you had to download special playlist, it was a super pain to get to work).

Nice interface, easy to use.

Works on 1X Verizon network no high speed needed. (See below)

Works in the Storage Card. (Big app 2.6MB)

Cons:

NOT ALL THE XM CHANNELS. This is not explained when you buy it. For example no FOX, MSNBC, in fact just ONE news channel and its crappy.

The affiliate store did not work, croked on my credit card. I switched to Handango and it went well.

Doesn't work on ActiveSync, has to be out of the cradle, which means your battery gets run down.

Interface doesnt let you know when you pick a station that its busy downloading it, you have to wait a while, then it switches to Media Player and downloads it.

Initial download buffering is really slow, but once it gets going its smooth.

NEW I took the app out in the field today and it was buffering the music every 10 seconds, making it pertty useless. Yet in my home it works fine. I have no clue what is different, other than a congested network.

NEW I'd also add that the delay from picking a station to playing music is over 30 seconds, which I find almost unacceptable.

Excellent report, Thanks!

Argh! Thanks for letting us know. Is this the first time you have used the affiliate store?

I think I used the affilate store before, but I can't remember. I dropped them an e and they sent back this huge message about all these things that could cause it, cached in browser, clear out my history, yada blada. I didn't feel like debuggin this for $14.95, and the $1 or so SPT makes, so I went to Handango, but hey, I tried to support my favorite site  Maybe next time it will work better.

I don't blame you. I would do the same thing. Thanks for letting us know, so we can follow up with Smartphone.net and make sure there isn't some larger problem.

One more question if you don't mind.... How far did it let you get in the checkout process? Did you enter your credit card and see the confirmation window, or did it fail just after you entered your card details?

I saw this great product on your site and downloaded it.

On trying to install, I got the error message that the .CAB file is not a valid Windows SE Setup file.

I did a little investigation and found that the file was not compatible with my Samsung i730 becasue it is Pocket PC 2003SE software. Apparently, the download from your affiliate site is not compatible with PPC 2003SE.

I have now purchased and downlaoded from Handango the PPC 2003SE version of this software and am now listineding to it.

But I sure would like a refund for my purchase from your affiliate site.

Thank you.

Hey Dave, sorry to hear about your problems. Our Affiliate site is for Smartphones only. The i730 is a Pocket PC Phone Edition, so I'm not surprised to hear it didn't work.

In regards to a refund, you will have to talk with the folks at Smartphone.net. They power our store. We have no power to control or refund sales. Thanks.

This seems like a GREAT little app! Unfortunetely, I don't have a MS Smartphone (yet), only a MS Pocket PC. Does anyone know if there is a similar app for Pocket PC? Or perhaps this one will work on a Pocket PC? Sorry, I don't mean to take this thread OT.

Handango sells it for the Pocket PC http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=71A2CEFD4A2D79FF8CE95AA813C6B47B&platformId=2&N=96806&productId=172945&R=172945.

Just remember it has trouble buffering the music and may not be the end all be all of satellite radio.
