Well, I've been wanting decent headphones for my Audiovox SMT5600 since the day after I got the phone a year ago.

After searching high and low I could not find another set of headphones which would work without an adapter.

Well, since Motorola Smartphones also use 4 conductor headphone connectors I was wondering if the new Rokr (iTunes Phone) uses the same headsets.

I went to my local Cingular store and checked out the headphones (still in their package) and the connector looked identical to my Audiovox connector.

My thinking is that becasue Apple has such a huge following with add-ons and accessories for their iPods, the same would happen for the Rokr.

The phone seems to SUCK bigtime, but hopefully that won't stop harware makers from adapting good/great (at least better!) headsets for mobile phones.

Does anyone know if the Motorola headsets for say, the MPx220 work in the Audiovox and vice-versa?

I believe they do. I remember using the headset for the SP3i (SMT 5600 clone) in the MPx220. Right now I can't seem to find the headsets or the MPx220. :-(

On the headset question, No SMT5600 and MPX220 headsets are NOT interchangeable. They are wired differently, though they are both 4 conductor 2.5mm plugs. I expect (hope springs eternal) that Motorola is at least consistent with itself, so a ROKR headset has a decent chance of being wired the same as an MPX220 one, but that wouldn't be right for an SMT5600.

What's wrong with a 4" adapter, except that most only do earphone, not mic as well.

any ideas on where to find the adapter to convert to regular a mini-headphone connector?

Note: that there are different ones for SMT5600 and MPX220. That's because they are different. These only do earphones. Never occured to me to see what they do to the internal mic, so I'm not sure if they cut it off, making it neccessary to pull the plug to take a call. I can check that out tonight.
