You can find a full list of supported features or download a free copy <a href="http://www.ghisler.com/smartphone.htm">here.</a> There is even a copy for your Pocket PC and Windows desktop! Is anyone here using Total Commander? If so, what are you're thoughts?

I have been using TC for approx 2 years on pocket PC. Everytime, I bought a PPC, this was the 1st program I would install. I am so glad to see a SP version. I love this program. IMHO, it's the best file manager-easy to use with advance features. I also have Resco explorer but still use TC on my AXIM50v. Now, I can use this great program on my SMT5600. Thanks for the post.

I've been using it on my PC for about 6 years now. It's one of those things that once you get used to it, you won't go back to any other way. I strongly urge everyone that tries it out and likes it to pay the nominal fee for a licence so that future development and support continues. There is simply no better product out there and I can't wait to get it on my SMT5600.

On my Xphone II, when I try to uninstall it, it says "Could Not Uninstall Total Commander".

Beware. It may be good but the install/uninstall code is just crap.

There's already a thread on it on their board:

The poor guy had to restore his phone using Sprite backup, which is just what I am about to do in another 2 minutes.

I hate software which don't uninstall.

You are right. I tried to "remove programs" and it cannot be removed.

I am pretty certain that it can be removed. Just watch. Someone smarter in this forum will show us how. I definitely am a newbie with smartphones so no idea here...

I wont be removing the program anytime soon however. I am loving it...

Thanks

I use Smart Explorer and am quite satisfied with it. I have used Total Commander on the PC in the past so I thought that it would be nice to try it. It is nice but the functionality it provides, I don't really need and I like Smart Explorer.

So I tried to remove the extra program from my SP, because as you may know, the Add/Remove list in the SP goes totally empty after you install over 49 programs. You can uninstall programs, but only from the PC if you cross the 50 mark. I like to be able to do things on the smartphone itself and it was never a problem with Nokia, so I generally tend to keep it below 50.

Well, anyway, I tried running the Sprite backup I had, only to find that the entry in the list remained. Then I hard reset my phone and ran the backup again. The entry still remained and it COULD NOT even be deleted from the PC (the Remove button in the Add/Remove programs window). Nor could I unselect it from there. If I did, nothing would happen.
So it's like...if you get Total Commander, you get it for life :)

Anyway, I then had to hard reset again after which I installed all my programs back. Then I put the phone off and when I put it back on again, it went into a hard reset loop and the Cold Boot loader kept running again and again, till I removed the battery.

This happened everytime I tried to turn on the phone (went into hard reset loop) so I hard reset again. Then I removed ActiveSync totally from my comp because whenever I synced with AS, it would install TC again (if I had used the Sprite backup).

After doing all that, I then proceeded to install the programs again on my newly hard reset phone.

Things seem to be ok now, but really...I will never be installing any untested software on my SP ever again. Specially if it contains the word "free". Which is sad really. As the guys who make TC are a respectable company.

I agree that uninstalling TC could be pain in the rear. However, I installed (like any trial programs) TC on my mini SD card. Although I could not uninstall program using Remove programs function, all I had to do was delete the link (short cut) for TC in start menu and delete one registry entry using registry editor and program was gone. I really like the program, so I ended up re-installing it again.

Can you tell me which registry entry you had to edit to get it out of the Add/Remove programs list? I can remove the shortcut and the installation folder, but have no idea about the registry entry for the list.

Thanks :)
