Certificate nightmare with imate Jam and VPN

My boss recently bought an imate Jam, and at the same time we have had a VPN set up in the office. However, he's unable to access the VPN because he does not have the appropriate certificate. Our external IT consultant has given up trying on this one.

Can anyone offer advice about whether there is a simple fix to this like downloading a certificate from somewhere?
