Assigning ringtones to groups

Any way of assigning ring tones to specific categories? or do you have to do it individually?

I thought the Photo Contacts app would be able to handle this, but now that I'm looking around to do it, I can't see it. I guess it can't be done. At least not easily. :( That's a huge oversight.
