I’ve decided to post my Do-It-Yourself solution to the C500 / SMT5600 dust problem on my website. You can find it here:

http://www.digimission.com/?page_id=25

I’ve tested it so far for 2 months+ and I’m still dust free. When I got my phone new I had dust after only 1 week! I wanted to test it for a bit longer just to be sure it works before I post it but there seems to be a lot of concern and talk about the dust issue lately (@MoDaCo (http://www.modaco.com/C500_SMT5600_DIY_Dust_Fix_Instructions-t204205.html)). Anyone have a broken phone for a torture test?! The disassembly instructions are on my website as well. And the fix is very simple; the hardest part is opening the phone. Enjoy!

First, thank you for the awesome detail and for taking time from your life to help those of us frustrated by the dust problem. I cannot wait to get the sh__t out!

Forgive my ignorance, ithe tutorial do you mean to say "Do allow the tape to be shown within the transparent LCD window or "Do not allow"?

Thanks for correcting my typo! Its 'Do NOT allow the tape to be shown within the transparent LCD window'. Weird, it's correct in my word document but was missing on the site.

Cool guide. 8) Wish I had an SMT5600 to mess with. ;-)

I wish you could add a couple of more shots for step #10. In the current photo its hard to make out where the tape goes. Or maybe once you open up the phone, it becomes clear. Is it possible to draw arrows or something to highlight the area that the tape goes on.

Thanks

I might include a highlighted photo later. Thanks for the suggestion!

Awesome writeup! I'm going to give the instructions a try on my SP3i. This thing seems to gather more dust under the screen every day. Such an irritating problem for an otherwise awesome phone.

I followed your directions and I was able to successfully remove the dust from my Aidiovox SMT5600! Thank you for the excellent tutorial. Thank you for the time you took to put this together for those of us who suffer from dust inside our phones.
