Free??? In the "About" section of the software it says "If you like the software please register. It only costs $10..."

Does this mean it's free and if I want to I can DONATE $10 or does this mean if I use it I need to PAY $10 for it? :?

Oh... I'm not sure. The email I got from the developer said it was free during beta, but the version on Smartphone.net says it's 1.0, and it's marked as free. So, I'm a little confused too. :?

It is pretty neat. However, I wish it cached the cartoons so you could quickly flip through them, even if it was only an option for storage cards. I find it a little slow to load and the connections often time out. Caching would greatly help both.

It is very slow. Waited up to 5 minutes for a cartoon to load before I lost patience. I would work much better with high speed access like EDGE or EV-DO. The cartoons were very readable, though, except the one frame political cartoons which required lots of scrolling to read the entire cartoon.

I will revisit when I get an EDGE or faster smartphone. Any coming, BTW??

Hi Mike. Thanks for posting ComicEdge! I'm the developer. So the story is it's free during beta (which it currently is in beta). The plan is it will always be free with an optional $10 donation via paypal. It will be a little like winzip in you'll always be able to use it but the final version might have an intro registration screen. Its currently in beta even though it was posted on smartphone.net as 1.0 (I'll fix this).

Hope you enjoy ComicEdge. I'll be adding image caching & email comic to friend functionality soon. This is very rough build so please dont mind if it crashes every once in a while!

Thanks!

I noticed a little bug with this app. If you leave it running, press the home key and then lock the key pad. After a while I press a key to light up the screen and see if I have new email or missed any calls, I can't see the homescreen. I'm looking at the last comic I was reading. At some point this app returned to focus. :x Preventing me from quickly checking the status of things with my phone.

Yikes. Thats a tough one. I spend some time trying to reproduce it but couldnt on my phone. Currently using an Audiovox 5600. I'll try with an MPX200.

However, I just discovered what I think the problem is. I have a timer running every hour that updates the latest comic urls in the background. I really like this feature since I'll always have the latest penny arcade without having to do manually do refreshes every few hours. I did realize some people wouldnt want this extra bandwidth cost. I added a config variable to set the refresh time or turn the feature off, but I havent added the setting form yet. So its unconfigurable.

But this feature definately isn't supposed to put the application in focus. I made sure to test this and it didn't for my phone. Just runs in the background and updates the url list. But I'm sure that its putting the app in focus for your phone and I'm confident I can find a fix & prop a new build by tomorrow.

Sorry for the trouble!

PC and Pixel has been added. Just do an update list on the Choose Comics page and you should see it[/quote]

Interesting. It's happened a number of times. I'm running your app on a C500. So it should be the same as the 5600.

Let me know when you've made changes, and I'll see if it fixes things.
