Someone said 256MB, someone said 512MB.

Any definite answer? How about 1GB?

Also, can the wma/mp3 playback in this phone with the bundled earbuds challenge those portable flash-based digital music players?

Thanks

The manual says 256 because that is all that was available for testing when this phone was made. I have a 512 card installed, and I am not having any problems. 1GB should work just fine, and so should anything greater. Just as long as the format doesn't change.

The only reason they don't say miniSD period is because they can't be sure that the miniSD format won't change in the future.

I've been using a 512MB MiniSD and I haven't had any problems with it.

Same here.

Anyone aware of a miniSD bigger than 512M? Like 1G?

Yup, they just cost WAY too much right now. (IMHO)

You can pre-order a 1GB miniSD card from this place in NYC for about US$99. I've bought stuff from them before and haven't had problems. I signed right up.

Sandisk sells their 1 GB miniSD for $109

JR is a good reputable dealer.

There were some on eBay last week for $80-ish but they went fast. I would spring for the 1 GB size if you can find it.

The audio playback is really good, but I would suggest using Betaplayer (freeware) as opposed to WMP.

why do you suggest betaplayer vs wmp, and where can I get it?

thanks for any info.

actually, what version have most of yug guys installed - 0.5 or 0.096?

0.5 works for me. The only thing I don't like about it is that you have to re-encode any videos manually using PocketDivXEncoder, while WMP will do it for you automatically if you sync.

just to get back on topic - has anybody actually used a 1gb miniSD card on the smt yet?

Yup. Well, not me personally. One of the guys over at Mobile Gadget News has tested a 1GB card in both the MPx220 and the SMT5600. No problems.

sandisk scares me. I would only buy a new one with a warranty.

I'm not a fan of Sandisk myself, but AFAIK they are the only ones currently making a 1G miniSD. With the card being under the battery I wanted the biggest thing I could get for my 5600, so I violated a long standing rule of no Sandisk. The warranty doesn't excite me. Reports are that Sandisk takes forever and you just end up with another Sandisk when one fails. I'ver never bothered to replace any of the Sandisks that failed. Guess I'll see if my space greed was ill advised.

I have had 2 Sandisks fail and it took months to get replacements. They are not good cards and worse customer service.

I've heard of problems, but I have 3 SanDisk SD cards and they all work fine. As does the ones my brother uses. I am careful with SanDisk, but I don't avoid them.

Don't know what the limit is - just got a 1GB today in my smt5600 and it works fine (yep sandisk).

I wonder if there is a limit or not.... 2GB are out...

Had several Sandisk SD cards go on me a couple of years back, and avoided them for quite a while. A 256 Sandisk was what I could find when I got my MPX220 and they were the first ones out with the 1G mini and I wanted the biggest I could get for under the battery on my SMT. They've been OK for now. Maybe the've corrected some of their issues. They took a real beating in the press and on the boards for a while

A well deserved beating!
