Very happy with my MPX220. Easy ActiveSync from day one via USB.

I cannot get ActiveSync to work via Bluetooth. I have searched this site and found several helpful entries with instructions on how to do this. I believe I am doing everything right yet I have not been successful. :(

On Laptop:

1.I have successfully established a Bluetooth device relationship between my phone and laptop.
2.On the COM PORTS tab of the Bluetooth devices box I have COM5 listed as incoming.
3.In the Windows Device Manager under ports I have “Standard Serial over Bluetooth Link (COM5)”
4.ActiveSync Connection Settings; I have checked “allow serial cable connection” with COM5 as the selected port.

On the Phone:

1.Bluetooth is set to “on”
2.Bluetooth Devices show my laptop name
3.ActiveSync>menu>connect via Bluetooth is selected (although this is not indicated anywhere)
4.ActiveSync>menu>options>PC settings; my laptop name is selected and “Sync with this PC during Manual sync” is checked

To initiate the sync I select: start>ActiveSync>sync. I get a very quick change from Not Connected to Connected right back to Not Connected

Some things which might or might not matter:

1.On the Devices tab of the Bluetooth Devices Box the SmartPhone is listed. The word “connected” pops up and disappears occasionally without any intervention on my part.
2.On the phone; start>ActiveSync>menu>options>pc settings>menu>advanced: I have checked and unchecked the “enable PC sync using this connection type” box. The next line only gives me one option; “USB” nothing else available to me here.

I have worked on this for quite a while. I am concerned that I have made so many changes that maybe I have just compounded the problem so I went back to square one with what I believe was my initial setup, synced via USB, and started over trying to sync via Bluetooth. I am using Windows XP SP2 and ActiveSync 3.7.1.

Thanks

The key is the pairing...

I believe you have to do it from the Smartphone side. I mean set the laptop in discoverable mode and discover the computer on your Smartphone. And the computer name as discovered by Smartphone BT should be the same as the ActiveSync name.

Also before you initiate the pairing, in the ActiveSync make sure that the BT COM port is selected. Not sure if this is really needed. But it does not hurt.

And even if you already have your laptop name in the device list. It does not hurt to delete it and re-discover it or over-write it by re-discovering the laptop.

The laptop settings that you have mentioned are perfect.

Even when I have gotten it to work I've had to pair the devices again to get them to work. Don't dispair because it does work.

Like Kris says the COM port does need to be checked after the pairing. I have seen it be different and then of course you can't sync.

Kris there was a thread someplace that showed how to keep the COM port in AS from changing. Do you remember where it is?

:D

Got it! I deleted the bluetooth relationship and re-established it beginning from the phone. Bingo!

Thanks for your help now I am going to search again for the post on how to make the sync a one button speed dial.

Thanks!
