Wow, this looks awesome. I'll have to keep an eye on this -- I'm wary of installing beta software on my SP, but this addresses some of the issues not with just the Smartphone calendar, but Power Calendar as well. Maybe I'll be able to use just one this time around. :)

Why couldn't they have put this out a month ago...before I bought Power Calendar.

Guess I'll try it out and see.

Hi all :)

I'm glad to see it looks good, now I only hope it will also work good for you :D

Currently it is all still very basic, but we hope to have full tasks support implemented in less then a month, text templates, a compatible home screen plug-in that opens Papyrus and many other things 8) (this is just the start of our list... :) ).

Our next update is scheduled for next week and we hope that as many users as possible will join our forums and post their ideas (or bugs of course..) and help us make Papyrus better as much as possible :)

If you have any new ideas you think we should add and you prefer to keep the discussion here feel free to post here too :)

Just downloaded it. Glad to see this has finally been done as Developer One seems more interested in version 6.8711254678884 of AF than Power Calendar.

I like the display and the input forms have some nice ideas for being able to see and input a fair amount jamming too much into on the screen at once.

The only problem I see with developers like this is that they slap together something simple and then have the beta testers do all the testing and designing. I don't necessarily think it's bad, but not terribly original. I prefer developers that actually build something that they've taken time to design before the first beta release.

Looks AWESOME. Especially with the fact that over in the SBSH Papyrus forums Amit says he will look into the home screen integration. That has been probably the number one lacking thing of all add on calender apps, the inability to customize the home screen and the choices of displaying tasks & appointments (more than just "your next appointment").

Actually, I think the Beta testing idea is GREAT. I have been a Smartphone users since they first came out in the US more than a year ago. I tried and tried to get on beta testing with Developer One with Power Calender, but they were not receptive. The end result was, I hate their app and feel that had I (and many others like me) had a chance to help them with functionality, the product could have been actually useful for me.

SBSH and Amit have made a very wise choice. Their expertise is in PPC apps so I think asking users of the Smartphone to help them develop this app is going to end up making it a very very good app, and I can see that happening over in their forums already.

I don't mind beta testing apps, although reloading apps on the smartphone is alot more work than my PPC due to the limited text entry. But it looks good and ultimately support for developing an app is what I care more about. So sure I will try it out.

Hi Kenny :)

As I learned with our products in the PPC market, it doesn't matter how creative we will be - only talking with the users will tell us what they want and need - and then, result a good product (of course with a lot of hard work in the middle and many night without to much sleep :D ).

We've done it with PocketBreeze and PocketWeather, and still doing it, and our customer base on the PPC market past the 30,000 in less then 7 months (from almost 3,000). I believe this is a result of hard work, listening to our users, and working hard as we can to support our users.

I can tell about my self that I usually sleep 4-5 hours a day and work most of the other time. Technically we can program almost everything (apart from some issues we are having with the 'make coffee' feature....) but I really think that asking your users for input, and then working according to it, is important. This, with a combination of good ideas and implementation from the developer side, is the key for a good product :D

If you believe our initial version is lacking features and you prefer not to take part in the testing and prefer not to post your ideas on our forums (which of course will help us) - we definitely didn't said it is a must, we are simply inviting users to come (*I'm not attacking of course :) just saying you can decide not to try the beta version and then only try the official public release trial version and see if it fits your needs or not, when this will be released :D ).

As for users that will help us, as we did with PocketWeather on our forums, all the users who joined our forums to help with PocketWeather received about %30 off price offer for the initial public release, which I think is a fair offer. Also, we usually target our prices lower then other products and I believe our support is really good and we really work hard on our products :)

Hi Bacco :)

If we will upload the CAB file inside the ZIP on our site will it help? (we will do it later today anyway for Mac users who asked for it)

If not, please email me to [email protected] and I will be glad to email it to you directly :D

This is where the usability of the Inbox or the mail client is confusing on the smartphone. :?

The attachment is shown as an icon. But it may not have been downloaded yet. So mark the mail for download. And then re-sync the mail box. Once you have the complete mail, then you should be able to click ont the attachment icon in the mail and launch the CAB file from with the mail client.

Jerry Raia

I can't open certain attachments either but I don't think a cab file is one of the forbidden ones. Do you have any way of getting it from a PC to your phone?

Bacco
12-31-2004, 04:09 AM
Thanks guys...yes, I will have the ability to get the cab file onto my phone via a computer when I'm back home on Monday.

As for downloading the email attachment...I've done that, but when I attempt to click on it I get the following message "Messaging will not open this attachment. It may be unsafe." So I guess cab files are one of those files not allowed to process for security reasons.

I was hoping that since it was downloaded onto my phone, I could find it and run the install from it's download location. But, no luck.

Shouldn't the weekly display format be under the weekly settings and not the General settings page? It took me a little to figure out why my weekly view didn't look like the one in this picture until I noticed the settings page here says "General" in the tittle bar. :)

Hi Mike :)

Because there are two separate setting pages for the week view - one for the weekly style and one for the list style (both show a week dates span) I decided this should go under the general settings, otherwise it needs to be included under one of these pages, and I don't think this should go only under one of them...

Thanks Jerry :)

We started today with two major issues we had solved which means we will soon finish adding the categories support :D

I'm now finishing the contact selector dialog that will allow linking contacts to appts and we hope to have the release even on Feb 1 or the week after :)

There is still a lot of work around the release we will need to do like user manual, web-site etc. :( but I think we will have it ready for Feb 1.

Thanks for all the support :)

Wow, I just installed it and it is really great. Just a few questions:

1. When you add category support, will you allow background color assignment by category?

2. Are you planning on implementing task entry and display on the views?

3. Are you planning to add icons by category support? I would prefer it over the time bars in the Month view.

4. Will you be supporting the ability to highlight and click on phone numbers to dial the number while viewing calendar item detail (like the the MS calendar view supports)? If you add tasks, this would be a very useful in task detail view as well.

Please forgive me if these have already been asked...

You have really done a great job. It reminds how PocketInformant came along after DevOne had the PocketPC calendar market pretty much sowed up, and introduced this kind of innovation, and literally took the market from DevOne.

Thanks for a job well done!!

Thanks.
Rob.

1,2 and 3 - yes, I hope we will have all of this in about 2 months from now. Something around version 1.1~1.2.

We've just released a new version that allows to dial contact numbers from the subject and also add contacts to the subject :D (I will post about it in a second...)

Now where can we get more of those category icons?
I haven't tried it yet, but I was thinking we could take the cat icons from PI and resize them for Papyrus. Given that the PI icons are not all that much bigger than those needed for Papyrus, I wouldn't think downsizing them a little more would degrade quality.

By joining the SBSH Forum as a beta user, you are able to purchase the full product for only $ 10.95 (regularly $ 17.95) Simply register there, and you're in. I spent about 5 minutes playing with the demo download and was convinced this is a GREAT app for my use on my SMT5600.

Order placement was easy, through the SBSH link.

After reading the responsiveness of their tech support here, and their Forum, these guys are destined for great things in the Smartphone arena.

Best of luck to SBSH - this is the kind of affordable product that is going to make the Smartphone a must-have product in 2005 and beyond.
