hey
im having some problems with my new smartphone. i have a dopod 565 (spv c500 clone) and i installed rjshortcuts but i dont understand how i can configure it, i would like to add programs to the shortcut bar it created. i am a ppc user and i am used to going to the "today" settings and chaning everything there but it does not seem as simple on the smarpthone. the program also pushed the time and date onto one bar and now its overlapping.
i am also confused as to how to start xbar on my dopod. i installed the default cab file but i cant seem to open the program. in the instruction it says to push the voice recorder button but there is no voice recorder button on my dopod, only a camara button.
i am little frustrated with teh smartphone because it is not as easy or simple to configure as my ppc.

can anyone help with these problems and maybe give me more tips as to how to configure it better.

thank you

Hi bigneeker

You are right, when I switched from PPC to Smartphone, it felt cumbersome because it does not have the touch screen or the easy input soft keyboard etc. Plus a lot of the settings is not accessible directly through menus and dialogs. Home Screen is one such example.

I would recommend the following:
- Get the WYSIWYG Home Screen Designer (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6381)
- Get the screen looking like what you like it to look like

- To add RJ Shortcut, certain manual steps need to be followed. The Home Screen is defined as an XML file, and can be found at this location "\Storage\Application Data\Home". Copy the XML file onto the desktop, open it up in a text editor. And follow the instructions here (http://smartphone.peakin.com/download/rjshortcut/readme.html) to add the RJ Shortcut and the programs that would like to add to it.
- Once done copy/overwrite the XML back on the phone. To see the changes, restart the phone or better, switch to another home screen layout momentarily and then back to the one you edited.

Hope this helps.

Try pushing down on the Action button and holding it down till the XBar window pops up. (Action Button = The Center button on the joypad/joystick.)

thank you for your response.
i have to say this is whole process of editing xml is not very user friendly. i have never edited xml files before but i will give it a try. Is there a freeware alternative to wysiwig home screen designer? i really miss the "today" settings in ppc :x

as for xbar, i realized that xbar 1.0 does not work at all on my smartphone because of the lack of a record button, only xbar 2 works on it but i havent tested it yet to be sure that it works.

Not to my knowledge. Home screen designer is brand new, and really a amazing product. Well worth the money, if you ask me.

Another alternative is to download pre-built homescreens. Check out the Best Home Screens On The Net (http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5131)
