The Voq and the MPx220 have been released, and we expect the Audiovox SMT5600 to be released in the near future. Followed closely by the New T-Mobile devices (if they make it over to North America). Not to mention that mysterious Nextel phone - that we haven't heard anything about in ages. Those of us in North America had little in the way of selection before, but that's all about to change.

With all these phones, which one are you waiting for?

Well, most likely I'll grab a MPx220 after the first couple weeks pass to let all of those that shipped with bugs and poor manufacturing get out, but that's only because it's the first to land in the US. It's all a matter of timing now, I'll take whichever is first to be stable and available here.

Actually the SP3i should be lumped together with the SDA = Qtek 8020 = HTC Feeler.

HTC Typhoon = C500 = Qtek 8010 = SP3

It depends -- if some of the rumors regarding the MPx220's problems are true, I'll sway over to the Audiovox. In particular, the battery life (I am hearing 2x more for the Audiovox?!) and volume (this is pretty subjective...) problems of the MPx220 are concerning...

Argh. sorry. That should just be SP3.

It's hard keeping all these names straight. Especially when we're dealing with 1 or 2 letters difference. :D

Confused: SP3i or MPx220 :?

Wish T-Mobile were offering one, so that I could get some rebate.

I've seen more negative comments about the MPx220 from experienced SmartPhone users over at HoFo (quite a few returning them) than I have from the MoDaCo crowd about the C500 (SP3, whatever else it's called). :(

The MPX220, I am picking up Cingular just to have the phone and run both VzW and GSM (Cingular). The early rumors may be true but also may be subjective as to what they consider good or bad. Until I see one, get one home and try it out the jury remains in deliberations.

Wow! 415 votes in, and the MPx220 only has a small lead of 32 votes over the Audiovox/i-mate SP3 / etc... I thought one of those 2 devices would be a landslide winner.

Current vote count:
Motorola MPx220 = 165 (39%)
Audiovox / etc... = 132 (31%)

I haven't decided 100% yet. I like the size of the Audiovox, the Motorola seems to be having some problems, but it's Quad band and has RIM BB software,. ....

Decisions, decisions....

Am I the only one that is frustrated by the fact that there are no new CDMA Smartphones to choose from??????

I really like my i600, but would love to have an upgrade path. What a phone it would make to have EVDO, Bluetooth, and a camera.

Oh well...back to waiting.

The main reason I'm not using Verizon today. (Plus I wasnt a big fan of the i600). Switch to GSM and your phone options are almost endless.

It is sad but also not surprising. I don't buy that the CDMA is pretty much US (others too) area but that Verizon takes so long to certify (which can be good) but also the cost is too high. The I600 is twice the price with a contract than the MPX220.

I keep Verizon for my day to day but I am tired of not getting what I want for work and errr, play so now I will have both.

Not really a smartphone, but I'm looking at the MDA III slider Pocket PC phone as my next buy. It already matches the features of my current PPC, plus it's a phone.

I think ill go with the Mpx220 not for the smartphone stuff but for it being a flip phone, blue tooth and a motorola. I already have motorola power adapters and i dont need the voice dail of bluetooth ether. Camera is ok but not a needed thing since i have a canon eos 10d

I am waiting on the Nextel i930. However, depending on the feature set it offers, I may choose to look into the SMT 5600 after the Cinular/AT&T merger takes place. I just know that Nextel is going to leave something out on their's. From what I have seen so far, no Bluetooth which I want for mainly the headset. Right now AT&T is not available in my region, but Cingular is, so hopefully the merge will make it possible to get coverage and that phone, that form factor is great. Have to wait and see!!
