Well according to GpsPasSion.com, Streets & Trips 2005 will have a Smartphone version bundled too!

This is a great move by Microsoft. I don't understand why they even bothered to sell this as a separate product. I'm also happy, because I've been meaning to upgrade my version. Now seems like a good time. :D

FYI...

Microsoft has updated the product page. (http://www.microsoft.com/streets/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=001) It is now listing the compatible accessories or attachments for the GPS locator. For Smartphone it seems the option is Bluetooth. It seems like the adaptor (http://service.pharosgps.com/shopping/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=77) is selling for $99. 8O

Kris...slichly off topic. You asked how I liked the pay version of mapopolis...

...the app is the same. Still in Beta, It depends on the maps that you buy how much functionality is there. I bought the 1-year $99 entire US map set. I just got a GPS off of ebay and it works great so far.

My only wish is that GPS is built into the phones one day...but until then...this will do just fine. The may sizes are so much smaller (filesize) on Mapopolis than PocketStreets. I have three counties on my phone (including philadelphia) for less than a smaller area on Pocketstreets.

I am guessing that the $99 map subscription means that you will not see the annoying 2 week or 1 week map expiration message even on the beta software. But does the subscription give you more POI.

I also like Mapopolis compared to Pocket Streets. It renders map faster than Streets. Also I like the way it uses joystick/pad to zoom in and zoom out.

And you are right about the map sizes.

I'll have to goto the webpage but I believe along with the maps, you can also download an additional overlay for POIs for each of the maps.
