The usability study helps Microsoft enhance its products. The participants not only get a chance to suggest improvements but also receive a gift as <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/usability/gratuity.htm">gratuity.</a> I have participated in a couple of them in the past, and have received Windows XP Professional and an XBox game. :-)
