The SPH-V5400, unveiled today in Japan, includes 1.5GB of hard disk storage. That's barely more than you can get from a SD or CompactFlash card, but it's a start, presaging the day when handsets are as much iPods as phones. The Apple product is not only more capacious than the Samsung handset, but cheaper too. When the SPH-V5400 goes on sale in South Korea later this month, it will retail for around $800"

I'm a little surprised that it's taken this long to get a phone with a build-in hard disk. Ever since I put my hands on IBM's MicroDrive, I knew that miniature disk drives would start finding their way into all sorts of gadgets. I would love to have a mobile phone with a built-in hard disk, if they could just solve the battery issue. Until then, I'll have to settle for a large SD (or miniSD) card. :D

Cell phones are becoming "Jack of all trades and Master of none." I amazed at all these phones that are coming out, that provides solution to some unique problem or request...but when it comes to placing a call, they struggle. :-)

First came the camera phones...
Then radio...recently TV...and now HDD to make them into MP3.

I still like the Smartphone model. Convert the phone into an MP3 player using a big SD card.
