As with all new wireless services, 3G UMTS is expensive and has a limited coverage area. But it's a tantalizing preview of some amazing changes just around the corner. ...3G UMTS zooms ahead with an official data speed of 220 to 320 kilobits per second (kbps), about five to seven times faster than wired dial-up, which has a top speed of about 50 kbps."</i><br /><br />Mike Langberg (Mercury News) has written a review of the new AT&T Wireless 3G UMTS data network. Mike seems impressed by the network, despite the limited number of phones that support UMTS, high monthly cost, and the limited availability.
