We did our due diligence by confirming our findings with other reliable sources before publishing this article. We hope that you’ll find the following information useful."</i><br /><br />According to PhoneMag's confirmed findings, the <i>MPx220 will be made available on September 27, 2004.</i> :D This is a little sooner than what <a href="http://www.smartphonethoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=40410">PhoneScoop</a> had reported earlier. And have to point out that our Jason was on the mark with his speculation. He had mentioned that if the carriers are going to launch the Smartphone in October, then <a href="http://estore.shopplex.com/app/storefront.aspx?cat_id=162&inv_id=40507121601319&modid=30214092059015&aid=5">the retail version</a> or the unlocked version will be released ahead of the the carrier launch. I wonder who his source is? PhoneMag's article also spells out the November 30, 2004 as the launch date for the MPx .

Phonescoop seem to have been way off on both the MPX 220 and MPX release dates.

I was hoping to get my MPX 220 this weekend but unfortunately won't be able to now. I have to say I can't wait to get my hands on it!

If it has a market price greater than $500. I will not be able to afford it :-( I am hoping it to be $450 when it launches.

I heard from sister in the Taipei Computer Show last week that Mpx will be retailed @ NT$30,000, so that's about US$900-1,000.

I bet MPx220 will be retailed anywhere between $500-$900 :-)

The subsidized price for the MPx will be $550 to $600 USD. Expect the subsidized price of the MPx220 to be $299. Corporate users will have the option of buying a camereless version of the MPx220. The devices are locked to AT&T with the option of paying full price for an unlocked version.
:D

We’ve also confirmed that T-Mobile will not be carrying either device.
8O  :(

When the 200 came out wasn't it $300 with 2yr contract?

Currently on AT&T's site, with a 2-year plan, the MPx200 is $289.99! 8O

Yes, the Mpx200 is still pretty expensive through AT&T, but there have been times when it was available for free (or even with money back) from amazon.com and buy.com. Also, it has always been possible to get it for a pretty good price from eBay. Right now I think it regularly goes for around $175 with no contract or commitments, sim unlocked so it can be used with any carrier, and including the 2003 OS update available in various places on the internet now. That's a pretty good deal.

I suspect that the Mpx220 will be about $450, subsidized down to $250 with two-year contract, and available on eBay from people who bought lots of them for around $400 at first, but quickly dropping to around $300, and eventually (this time next year) selling for around $150 as the "next big thing" is looming on the horizon. Those are my price predictions.

My real question is what do we know about what carriers might support the Mpx220? Has there been word on who will support it, or at least word on who definitely won't support it?

Both models will be release on AT&T wireless network, followed by Cingular in January. Europe/Asia can expect to get the 900/1800/1900 version of MPx on October 30, 2004.
We’ve also confirmed that T-Mobile will not be carrying either device.
If support = carry, that pretty much wraps up the US. :D

Why T-Mo elected not to carry this device is totally beyond me... They have the Largest GSM/GPRS network in the nation, not to mention the world and this phone seems perfectly suited for it.

Come to think about it, T-Mo doesn't have any "smart phone" devices at all - only the "regular" phones and pocketpc phone edition phones. Seems like this would be a nice choice to fill that gap...

The only things I can think of is that the MPx220 might be an AT&T/Cingular exclusive for the first few months (like the iPAQ h6315 PocketPC Phone is for T-Mobile), and that T-Mobile was planning on carrying the MPx100, so they had no interest in anything else.

The only national GSM provider in my area is T-Mobile, but early next year, Cingular is buying out SunCom (from what I've heard). If Cingular starts selling in this area (and has the MPx220) and T-Mobile STILL has no branded WM SmartPhones, I'll probably switch.

Does anyone have an idea on the size of this unit? I'm using a Mitac 8380 right now and wanting to upgrade... but I'm curious as to whether or not any of the other smartphones out there are any smaller. The Mitac 8380 is a monster compared to other flip phones on the market now...

What I really want is an all-metal version of the mpx220. That will be really nice.

V600 has metal body, and so does the upcoming V3. Why not the mpx220 ?

MPx220 is about the same size as the MPx200, slimmer than MPx200 but slightly taller. I am sure it is smaller than the 8380.

The actual dimensions..
Check the link below and click on 'Size' in the bottom left corner.
