VA luxury tax on cell phones?!

Verizon charged me 13% tax on my i600. They said it was the luxury tax. Has anyone else paid this much? That seems excessive to me.

Just to clarify, they are charging you this on the purchase of the phone and not the monthly contract, right?

Where I am, the total of the Provincal and Federal tax is 15%. So 13% sounds good to me. :wink:

But you're in Canada; the tax is supposed to be high. By comparison, the VA sales tax is only 4.5%.

I also checked the state consumer affairs website and no such tax exists.

I'm going to file a complaint against Verizon; they're scamming me. :evil:
