It appears to be a news piece about Intel's new Mobile Chip-set, but I don't recognize that phone. It looks to have a very unique keypad area. I can't tell if that is a full keyboard of just a number pad. What do you think? Could this be a "yet-to-be-announced" Smartphone?

Don't know about the smartphone, but the device that looks like a Pocket PC Phone Edition is a handheld platform reference designed by Intrinsyc, utilising the new chipset including the 3D graphics chip Intel 2700G: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=2633

I'd say the smartphone is another reference design from the same company, because they're associated with Intel in creating the reference platforms.

The keypad is certainly interesting...it does look like a qwerty key pad or the newer quick tap..multi tap..some tap.

But this phone looks like its a prototype..reference platform..I can see the intel logo on top of the lcd screen (between the screen and the speaker).

thank goodness these are prototype designs - either she is small or else you could choke a horse with those devices.

I was trying to look for more pictures of that phone..but failed. I believe its from the Intel Developer Conf in Taiwan taking place right now.

Anyway found another interesting link...Intel keynote at CES2004.

Fast forward 40 mins into the presentation to see the mobile devices..

No big mention about smartphones...but lots of cool devices..check out the "florence" Intel's new laptop reference.

Also in the mobile devices section, the slide mentions a company named "Maxon" as one of the smartphone manufacturer.

Amazed by the hardware level developments 8O

I agree - that's what I see too :-)

I doubt Intel would be the ones to spill the beans on "real" forthcoming phones ;-)

And the phone looks like it's running on either the SMP2002 or WM2003... but not SE...

The Home Screen is definitely a 320x240... since the home screen image can't even fill up the screen.

I was just tooling around the Intrinsyc web site - they have a press release out about thier expertise with Intel chip-sets and Microsoft embeded OS - and they had pictures of the device on the table, but not the phone. Oh well, it looks like this might just be a reference design.

And that video was pretty cool. Especially "florence". Wow! I would be all over that unit. Very very cool. 8)

I just think it's intel's way of showing companies what "could" be when using their chipset rather than actual or forthcoming phones...

my 2 cents

I like that keypad. Why can't we see more phones like this? :(

Looks like the screen can be rotated, which probably means it has a camera.

But, what is the silver thingy on the top right corner of the phone? Top right with reference to the screen.

Hey Mike,

Maybe SPT.com can have a "Guess the thingy contest" :-)

I think its a Reset Pin/stick or Battery eject button :)
