I am waiting for someone else to try this.

They also have posted the offical update that unlocks the HKCR.

I can't find a valid link on their page for the HKCR. I had done it manually and then used the ROM update for caller id only to read that the caller id should have been done first. Anybody know what if anything happens when installed out of sequence?

Looks like they pulled it because it was not supposed to be up in the first place. Glad I didn't rush to install.

The page with the patches is back up again at Samsung.

I'm going to wait a bit more before trying them.

Sounds like there might have been a problem with the patch the first time around causing them to pulled it, fixed it, and put it up again.

Anybody have a clue as to what you're supposed to do if your software version is not WI23?

Mine is S:i600.04.V.WH04/13192

Thanks,

ARW I don't think you are looking in the right place. "The software version on your Samsung SCH-i600 Smartphone can be checked by going to the (Home Screen > Programs > 9 More > Settings > 9 More > 6 Phone Settings > 3 Version) PDA software should read WI23."

Mine is the same with the HKCR patch.

I believe that is the radio code not the pda code. Read the instructions carefully?

That's where I'm looking. Mine is clearly not WI23. I believe my phone was one of the first released, which may be part of the problem. I've neer been able to apply the MSN Messenger update either.

Perhaps I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that they release 2003.

Thanks,

Are you saying your s/w version is the same as mine, as in S:i600.04.V.WH04/13192? If so were you able to successfully run the updates?

I applied the caller ID update, and it works as it's listed. THe number now shows up on the outside. If it's in your address book, it shows on the inside when you open the phone.

It's about time!

Nope, that's what it says. No W123 in sight.

If you look under Settings/About you don't see the PDA code. If you are looking under the Settings/More/Phone Settings/Version than that is where I see the PDA code.

And that's where we are both looking, I believe.

ARW,

I also have one of the earlier i600s released. I too have never been able to install the Messenger update and my phone software version is the same as yours. I spoke with Samsung tier 2 support and they mentioned that I could take my phone to a Verizon store, explain my problem, and they would replace the phone with a newer one with the latest ROM version.

He also mentioned that they were working on finishing up the Pocket PC Phone Edition upgrade to WM 2003 and that the Smartphone 2003 upgrade would be next. His advice to me was to wait before returning my device. The logic being that if Verizon released an updated i600 with the 2003 OS but did not release a software patch online I would be due for an exchange anyway given how old the ROM was in my existing phone.

As for the Caller ID patch, I didn't install it given my phone software version I'm still using IA callerID

Thank you Berylium. An excellent informative post. I'm in exactly the same boat as you so I'm going to hold on a while longer and see how the 2003 update works out.

Well I did it. After all the back and forth from Samsung I was relcutant to try the patch however since it was snowing all day and I got bored I installed the caller id patch carefully following Samsung's instructions. It took about 20 minutes I guess ( I went to lunch). Works great.

Too bad about those with older versions.

Both updates work fine - the unlock and the caller id. Install the caller ID first as noted in V's instructions
