The Mobile and Embedded Devices (MED) division reported a revenue of $63M for the quarter. This a 66% leap in revenue from the same period last year, and a $10M increase over first quarter FY04. MED includes Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone, MapPoint, and Windows Embedded.

Windows Mobile seems to be the driving force. Pocket PC shipments grew by 94% from this time last year, and Smartphones were launched during this quarter by AT&T Wireless and Verizon. A PowerPoint presentation showing Microsoft's performance across all divisions is available here.

This is very encouraging. The more positive impact the Mobile & Embedded Devices group has on the balance sheet, the more respect and resources Microsoft will give it. That translates to new and better software for our devices!
