The Street.com is reporting that Cingular made an all-cash offer over the weekend. Details are not known, but it is believed that the offer exceeded AT&T Wireless' $9.99 per share closing price from Friday.

I guess this would be considered the hard way for Cingular to add a Smartphone to its lineup :D

We can only hope the result of this is a company with the BEST of both Cingular and AT&T and not a company with the WORST of both. While I am a strong supporter of capitalism, I do not agree that bigger is always better and more efficient and that mergers are always in the best interest of either shareholders or customers. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

If the resulting company (ATT-Cingular, or whatever they call it) sticks with Cingulars more aggresive rate structure and ATT better line-up of phones, then great. And if my service area has fewer holes, that's great too. If, on the other hand, the new company has ATT lousy rates and Cingular limitation on phone choice, maybe I'll be switching to Verizon soon.

Expect the worst -- that way, you can only be pleasantly surprised :)

I agree totally! I been with At&t for 6 years and had always good service with them. Plus I get a city discount for working with the MTA. I hope that this merger don't mess things up.
