I have no idea what the practical value of this is, but when did that every stop anyone?

Its actually cool, im very impressed and it has a lot of potential. It looks just like Win98 or something and obviously boot very fast (especially compared to linux on my xbox). Why would you want to run Windows CE on your Xbox? The same reason you would want to run linux or any other operating system. The xbox is a very decent computer for the price :) Dont forget, it has built in LAN, HDD, and the controller ports are actually USB :)

btw... its very nice to see two of my interests collide here at SPT (which are smartphone/wince devices and xbox hacking).

It would be cool if it can be used to play video. So you can have some kind of streaming video player next to the TV.

Xbox Media Player and Xbox Media Center both play probably more audio and video codecs/formats then media player on your pc :P You can set up file shares over your network to stream anything on your network. My Xbox has a bigger harddrive then my PC (120gb vs 80gb) so I keep most of my movies and mp3s on the xbox directly (just ftp them to the xbox).

Very cool. And I thought we had seen it all regarding porting things to the xbox.

It's too bad that slashdot has turned into such a negative place. I often read the front page, but I no longer read any feedback. :?

Can I use my Xbox as an external hard drive ??

And how do I share video/audio files between PC and Xbox ??

Well, yes and no. The xbox is basiclly a computer. You can do a lot with it. IF you hack the bios and allow it to boot something other than the xbox OS.

There are plenty of websites out there devoted to xbox hacking.

Yes you could. Mod your xbox, and install EvoX as your replacement dashboard. It has an ftp client/server built in so you can connect from your computer and transfer files back and forth.
