Do I need mMode on AT&T

I was looking at the Motorola MPx200 today at an AT&T store. The question I couldnt get answered is do I need mMode to just surf and sync with my exchanger server or is mMode a way to get a bunch of services I dont really want?

Mmode will let you download email and surf when not tethered to your PC. When you are connected to PC via USB, activesync does it and you dont use a GPRS connection.
