I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason for this, but as I've yet I haven't seen it. Maybe someone can clarify - Why is Motorola using the Smartphone 2002 OS on their upcoming MPx200 instead of Windows Mobile 2003?

Probably so they can get it out faster.

I don't have the exact answer, but the consensus of opinion seems to be that Smartphone 2003 has not yet made it through carrier testing.

Ah, ok. That makes the most sense of anything I have heard so far. Even without Windows Mobile 2003, it seems to be a killer phone.

so why won't this phone let you upgrade to smartphone2003 once this is released ?

Because neither ATT or Motorola are in the business of providing OS upgrades. They sell handsets, and are more likely to issue a whole new handset than upgrade existing ones.

ATTWS not offer upgrades? They may not have done a full version upgrade yet but they have issued updates for the PPCPE. They upgraded the radio stack and the OS for the Siemens SX56, and I know they have a working beta version of WM2003 for the Siemens SX56. They do offer them, they just take quite a while to beta test and distribute.
